- • The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Intern role at Calix offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in maintaining and improving the reliability of cloud-based services and platforms as part of an award-winning summer internship program.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting in monitoring system reliability, supporting incident investigation and root cause analysis, participating in supervised 24/7 rotational shifts, building automation tools with Python and Shell, contributing to observability using Grafana and Prometheus, helping manage databases, supporting Kafka-based systems, working with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning, assisting CI/CD pipelines, creating runbooks and dashboards, and collaborating with engineering teams to enhance system resilience.
- • You will join Calix’s globally distributed SRE organization within the Products Team, working on production systems at scale while learning how SRE principles are applied in real-world cloud operations and reliability environments.
- • This role provides the opportunity to develop technical skills in cloud infrastructure, automation, observability, and incident management, while gaining exposure to enterprise-scale systems and preparing for a future career in site reliability or cloud operations engineering.
🎯 Requirements
- • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- • Strong fundamentals in Linux/Unix systems and command-line usage.
- • Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing).
- • Familiarity with Python, Shell scripting, or similar languages.
- • Basic knowledge of databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) including queries and schema concepts.
- • Willingness to participate in 24/7 rotational shifts as part of a structured learning and support model.
