• • In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and operating the core components of our Managed Gateways platform. These gateways are designed to provide organizations with fully managed, private, and isolated environments, eliminating the complexities of infrastructure management while ensuring paramount security and compliance. Our Dedicated Cloud Gateways offer a high-performance, scalable solution for controlling traffic flow across services without resource contention, while our Serverless Gateways provide an elastic, infrastructure-agnostic API gateway solution that adapts to traffic demands seamlessly. • • As a Software Engineer 2, you will not only contribute to building critical components but also take ownership of major features from conception through to production. You will be a key player in driving technical execution within your team, collaborating closely with product managers, architects, and fellow engineers to shape the technical direction of the platform. Your work will directly impact our ability to deliver and maintain 99.99% uptime, exceptional performance, and a delightful developer experience for our customers.
• • Key responsibilities include designing and developing highly available distributed systems that are resilient to regional and zonal outages. You will own and lead the delivery of significant features and modules, guiding them through the entire lifecycle – from initial design and implementation to successful production rollout. This involves building sophisticated microservices and control-plane components that are the engine behind Kong’s Dedicated Cloud Gateways and Serverless Gateways.
• • You will collaborate extensively with Product and Engineering teams to deliver new features at scale, ensuring these innovations directly empower our customers in their efforts to build, secure, and manage their APIs effectively. A crucial aspect of this role involves participating in on-call rotations, where you will be responsible for the services in production, proactively identifying and driving improvements to enhance reliability and performance.
• • To ensure the robustness and maintainability of our systems, you will be responsible for writing comprehensive automated tests, implementing essential observability hooks, and developing tooling designed to reduce operational toil and enhance system stability. Furthermore, you will play a role in assisting with the hiring process, contributing to the growth and mentorship of engineers within the team. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to shaping the technical roadmap for Managed Gateways, bringing fresh ideas and insights from the realms of infrastructure, networking, and platform engineering.
