• As a Software Engineer at Column, you will play a pivotal role in constructing and maintaining the core systems that underpin our entire operation. This includes everything from our high-volume payments stack and developer-facing tools to the fundamental platform services that enable our unique banking solutions. Your work will directly impact the reliability and scalability of a platform processing billions of dollars daily.

• Your responsibilities will span the full spectrum of infrastructure development and maintenance. This includes building and enhancing our compute, storage, networking, security, and observability systems, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and secure.
• You will be instrumental in developing and managing core banking infrastructure. This involves working with direct integrations to critical financial networks, including the Federal Reserve and real-time payment networks, demanding a high degree of precision and reliability.
• A significant part of your role will involve designing, implementing, and refining our CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, and release engineering workflows. This ensures efficient, safe, and repeatable deployments, empowering our development teams.
• You will be tasked with improving the overall resiliency and availability of our systems. This will be achieved through the implementation of advanced monitoring strategies, comprehensive testing frameworks, and intelligent automation.
• You will lead and contribute to key platform initiatives. These may include developing robust authentication and authorization mechanisms, implementing efficient change data capture solutions, and building cross-cutting APIs that enable seamless integration across our services.
• Expect to work "close to the metal," focusing on optimizing performance, reliability, and correctness across all our systems. This requires a deep understanding of system internals and a commitment to engineering excellence.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience in building and operating distributed systems, with a strong understanding of compute, storage, and networking principles.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Go, Python, Java, Rust) and experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and alerting systems.
• Strong understanding of system safety, security best practices, and experience working in regulated environments is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving complex technical challenges.
