📋 Description

• Join Flex as one of our earliest engineering hires and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) payments. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on a category-defining company, working across the entire technology stack to deliver exceptional customer experiences, robust APIs, and scalable infrastructure.
• You will be instrumental in building the highest-converting HSA/FSA checkout experience available in the market. This involves developing intuitive and seamless user interfaces that simplify the process for consumers and merchants alike, ensuring that eligible health and wellness purchases can be made effortlessly online.
• Your responsibilities will include designing and developing simple, elegant APIs that facilitate easy integration for health and wellness brands. These APIs will be the backbone of our platform, enabling partners to quickly and efficiently adopt Flex's payment solutions.
• You will architect and implement scalable solutions for our core HSA/FSA payment infrastructure. This requires a deep understanding of distributed systems, database design, and cloud technologies to ensure reliability, security, and performance as we grow.
• A key aspect of this role involves interacting directly with our customers. You will collaborate with merchants and potentially end-users to gather feedback, understand their challenges, and help define the product roadmap, ensuring our solutions meet real-world needs.
• You will work with a modern technology stack, including Next.js for front-end development, Rust for high-performance backend services, TypeScript for type safety across the stack, Postgres as our primary relational database, Redis for caching and real-time data, and AWS for our cloud infrastructure.
• This role offers the chance to contribute to a product that solves a significant pain point in the health and wellness industry. By enabling seamless HSA/FSA payments, Flex empowers smaller merchants to compete with larger players and makes it easier for consumers to utilize their hard-earned benefits, reducing administrative burdens and paperwork.
• You will be involved in the entire software development lifecycle, from ideation and design to implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance. This includes writing clean, well-documented, and testable code.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Your input will be crucial in shaping product strategy and technical direction.
• Contribute to establishing best practices for software development, code reviews, and deployment processes within the engineering team.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the stack, ensuring the stability and performance of the Flex platform.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support the production environment, ensuring minimal downtime and rapid response to incidents.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential application to enhance Flex's offerings and infrastructure.

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably at fast-paced, product-driven technology companies.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern web technologies, with hands-on experience in React or a similar front-end framework.
• Demonstrated skill in at least one backend programming language; experience with Rust is a significant plus.
• Practical, hands-on experience deploying and managing applications on AWS infrastructure.
• Comfort and adaptability in dynamic, fast-paced startup environments.
• Prior experience in a startup environment, particularly at the Seed to Series B stage, is highly desirable.
