📋 Description

• Join BlueMatrix as a Software Engineer in Toronto and help build the secure, data-driven platforms that global capital markets rely on every day. You’ll be part of a product that moves billions of dollars in market-moving research, serving investment banks, asset managers, and independent research providers across five continents.
• Own the full lifecycle of new features and services—from whiteboard to production. You’ll design, code, test, deploy, and monitor REST APIs that handle millions of requests per day with sub-second latency and 99.9 % uptime. Expect to ship to production weekly, using feature flags and progressive rollouts to minimize risk.
• Work across a modern, polyglot stack: Vue and React on the front end, Java and Spring Boot on the back end, PostgreSQL and MySQL for transactional workloads, Snowflake for analytics, and Dockerized micro-services orchestrated on AWS with Terraform. You’ll have the autonomy to introduce new tools when they solve real problems.
• Collaborate in small, cross-functional squads that include product managers, UX designers, QA engineers, and DevOps specialists. Daily stand-ups, weekly demos, and blameless post-mortems keep us aligned and continuously improving. Your code reviews will raise the bar for readability, test coverage, and security.
• Optimize performance at every layer—database indexing, query tuning, JVM tuning, and cloud cost efficiency. You’ll use distributed tracing, custom metrics, and log aggregation to pinpoint bottlenecks before clients notice them.
• Champion reliability and observability. You’ll add health checks, circuit breakers, and chaos tests so services degrade gracefully under load. On-call rotation is lightweight (one week in eight) and always paired with runbooks and compassionate teammates.
• Interact directly with clients during beta programs and quarterly business reviews. Their feedback will shape your roadmap, and your technical insights will help them get more value from the platform.
• Mentor junior engineers through pair programming and brown-bag sessions. Share your knowledge of domain-driven design, event sourcing, or whatever passion project you’re exploring. We believe teaching is the fastest path to mastery.
• Contribute to an inclusive culture where psychological safety is non-negotiable. Whether you’re debating architecture in a design doc or grabbing bubble tea after stand-up, every voice is heard and every win is celebrated.

🎯 Requirements

• 3–8 years of hands-on experience delivering production software in Java or another JVM language
• Proven track record designing, building, and shipping high-performance REST APIs at scale
• Deep understanding of relational databases and query optimization (PostgreSQL/MySQL); bonus points for Snowflake experience
• Demonstrated success working in an Agile Scrum environment with automated testing, CI/CD, and micro-services
• Production experience with AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, etc.) or equivalent cloud platform
• Comfortable owning services end-to-end, including on-call rotation and direct client interaction
