• As a Software Engineer on this team, you will operate at the dynamic intersection of API design, developer tooling, and robust platform architecture. Your contributions will directly impact how thousands of developers leverage Confluent Cloud, ensuring consistency, usability, and long-term maintainability across hundreds of APIs.
• You will collaborate closely with various service teams to meticulously review and standardize APIs, establishing best practices that ensure a seamless and intuitive developer experience. This involves not only defining the standards but also actively building and maintaining the essential tools that bring these APIs to life for our customers, including the Confluent Cloud CLI and the Terraform Provider.
• Our team's core focus is on governance, automation, and maintaining exceptional interface quality at scale. You will be instrumental in creating the foundational frameworks, sophisticated validation systems, and essential tooling that empower us to expose a vast number of APIs safely and consistently, all without compromising product velocity.
• This role offers a unique chance to contribute to the next generation of Kafka, a technology that is fundamentally changing how data moves and what the world can achieve with it. You will be pushing the boundaries of distributed system design, working with data that is in constant motion and enabling companies to react faster, build smarter, and deliver dynamic experiences.
• Your responsibilities will encompass the full software development lifecycle: designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and continuously improving software that directly impacts our production environment and our customers.
• You will be expected to adhere to and champion best practices in software development, actively participating in code reviews to ensure code quality, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving.
• Effective management of project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables will be a key aspect of your role, ensuring that we meet our ambitious goals in a fast-paced environment.
• As part of Confluent's Toronto engineering hub, you will benefit from a structured hybrid working model designed to accelerate your learning, onboarding, and professional growth. • During your first year, all Software Engineers globally are required to participate in the comprehensive SWE Onboarding program, which includes spending two days per week in the Confluent office to maximize collaboration and integration.

🎯 Requirements

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Math, or a closely related technical field, with a graduation date anticipated between December 2023 and January 2026.
• Demonstrated self-motivation and the ability to drive projects forward, with a capacity to learn and grow through mentorship and clear project requirements.
• Proven ability to work effectively within a team environment, coupled with strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling clear and concise interaction with colleagues and stakeholders.
• Solid understanding of fundamental data structures and algorithms, with proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Java/Scala, C, C++, or Go.
