- • Join the BlueCard ITS Applications team at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee as an experienced Software Engineer, playing a pivotal role in the modernization and maintenance of critical internal-facing applications that power BlueCard claims processing.
- • This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team that leverages a diverse technology stack, including Mainframe COBOL, C#, MQ Series, Java, WebSphere, Linux, and Windows, offering a rich environment for professional growth and skill development.
- • You will be instrumental in enhancing existing systems and migrating legacy applications to modern architectures, ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of our claims processing infrastructure.
- • The role involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities, from defining system scope and objectives through in-depth research and fact-finding, to designing, developing, modifying, and integrating complex information systems.
- • You will be tasked with devising and refining application systems and procedures to meet stringent functional requirements, focusing on optimizing capacity, operating time, response time, and the desired output format.
- • A core part of your contribution will be the design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation of programs, subroutines, and scripts, ensuring high-quality and maintainable code.
- • Depending on project needs and your expertise, you may serve in various project team roles, including project lead, business systems analyst, or technical lead for small to medium-sized initiatives, or manage specific phases of larger, more complex projects.
- • Continuous learning and skill maintenance are essential; you will be expected to stay current with the latest advancements in software languages, databases, platforms, operating systems, utilities, and networks relevant to your work assignments.
- • You will be a key responder to system failures and performance events, taking immediate and appropriate measures to minimize system downtime and implementing robust solutions to prevent the recurrence of problems.

- • Experience with messaging platforms like MQ Series will be valuable for developing solutions that facilitate asynchronous communication and data flow between applications.
- • You will have the opportunity to integrate on-premise solutions with cloud-based services, contributing to our evolving technology landscape.
- • This position is fully remote, offering flexibility while requiring onsite interviews at our Chattanooga, TN headquarters to ensure a strong cultural fit and understanding of the role.
- • The role requires participation in an on-call rotation approximately once every five weeks, ensuring continuous support for critical systems.
- • Sponsorship is not available for this role, so candidates must be authorized to work in the USA.
