• As a Software Engineer on the Tax Experience team, you will be at the forefront of solving some of the most complex and unique challenges that impact both our business operations and our global user base. This is a dynamic, cross-functional team responsible for user-facing products that nearly every Host and Guest on Airbnb interacts with. Our core mission is to streamline the user journey by removing friction while simultaneously safeguarding Airbnb's ability to operate efficiently and compliantly across all jurisdictions.
• Your role will be pivotal in developing innovative solutions that enhance business agility, drive operational efficiency, and ensure the accuracy of our tax-related processes. You will be expected to develop a deep, end-to-end understanding of complex systems, demonstrating a strong ability to navigate and contribute across various technologies and codebases. This position offers a unique opportunity to tackle a wide spectrum of intricate problems, build impactful features from conception to deployment, and continuously expand your domain expertise in the vital area of tax and compliance.
• We are looking for engineers who are passionate about building scalable, reliable, and user-centric products. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, legal experts, and other engineering teams to translate intricate business requirements into elegant technical solutions. Your contributions will directly influence the user experience for millions, ensuring that Airbnb can continue to grow and innovate while adhering to global tax regulations.
• A typical day in this role involves writing high-quality code, taking ownership of end-to-end feature development for large and critical products within our roadmap. You will actively participate in collaborative solution design sessions with your core team, diving deep into implementation details and focusing on achieving operational excellence. Furthermore, you will be empowered to identify, propose, and execute on your own innovative ideas, directly contributing to our ability to build products that can adapt swiftly and effectively to fluid or ambiguous business needs.

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Demonstrable experience and knowledge in at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Kotlin, Scala, Python, Go, Rust, C/C++/C#.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of cross-functional partners, including Legal, Customer Support, and Experience Design teams.
• Experience in managing initiatives with ambiguous or rapidly shifting requirements.
• Experience with Tax, Compliance, Finance, or similar domains is highly desirable.
