Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Join Arista Networks as a Software Engineer C++ and become part of a team that is redefining how the world’s largest data centers, campuses, and service-provider networks operate. You will design, build, and optimize high-performance, low-latency networking software that moves terabits of traffic every second for Fortune-500 companies, cloud giants, and financial exchanges.
- • Own end-to-end feature delivery—from translating customer requirements into elegant C++ code, through rigorous unit and integration testing, to rolling your changes into production on Arista’s EOS operating system. Your commits will land directly on switches and routers that power critical infrastructure for millions of users.
- • Work at the intersection of hardware and software. You will interface directly with Arista’s custom ASICs, kernel-bypass datapaths, and advanced telemetry engines. Expect to profile packet pipelines down to the nanosecond, squeeze every last CPU cycle, and craft lock-free algorithms that scale linearly across 128-core x86 servers.
- • Collaborate daily with a globally distributed, fully remote engineering team spanning Hungary, Romania, Greece, and Spain. Morning stand-ups alternate between CET and EET to ensure everyone has a voice; afternoons are deep-work blocks protected by “no-meeting” policies. Code reviews are celebrated knowledge-sharing sessions rather than gatekeeping rituals.
- • Contribute to Arista’s open-source initiatives—upstreaming patches to the Linux kernel, DPDK, and FRR—while also maintaining proprietary modules that give customers features they cannot find anywhere else. You will see your name in git logs that are read by thousands of engineers worldwide.
- • Drive continuous performance improvement. You will build micro-benchmark harnesses, craft synthetic traffic generators that simulate 400 Gb/s line-rate bursts, and mine real-time telemetry to pinpoint regressions before customers notice. When a 0.5 % drop in throughput is detected, you will trace it to a single cache-miss in a hot path and ship a fix within hours.
- • Champion reliability and security. Every line of C++ you write is scrutinized by static analyzers, fuzzers, and formal-verification tools. You will participate in blameless post-mortems, author design docs that anticipate failure modes, and mentor junior engineers on safe concurrency patterns.
- • Influence product direction. Field engineers bring back war-stories from customer sites; you will distill those into actionable epics, propose roadmap items, and prototype solutions that turn pain points into competitive differentiators. Your voice matters—many of our most successful features started as hallway Slack threads.
- • Enjoy the freedom of remote-first culture. Work from a quiet home office in Budapest, a beachside café in Crete, or a co-working hub in Bucharest—your choice. We ship you a top-spec dev box, 4K monitor, and noise-canceling headset so your setup is indistinguishable from our Silicon Valley lab.
- • Grow without limits. Budget for conferences (CppCon, netdev, FOSDEM), unlimited O’Reilly and Coursera access, and quarterly hack-weeks where you can experiment with Rust, eBPF, or AI-accelerated networking. Promotions are based on impact, not politics—several staff engineers joined as new grads just five years ago.
🎯 Requirements
- • Expert-level modern C++ (C++17/20) with proven ability to write high-performance, lock-free, multi-threaded code in user- and kernel-space
- • Deep understanding of Linux networking stack, including TCP/IP, VLANs, VXLAN, BGP, and kernel-bypass techniques such as DPDK or XDP
- • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent professional experience; advanced degree a plus
- • Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with network hardware (ASICs, NICs, switchdev), familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins), and contributions to open-source networking projects
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote work from anywhere in Hungary, Romania, Greece, or Spain with flexible hours and a “no meeting Wednesday” policy
- • Competitive salary plus annual equity refreshers and a 10 % annual bonus tied to company performance
- • €2,000 annual professional-development budget for conferences, courses, and certifications plus paid attendance at one international event per year
- • Comprehensive private health insurance, life insurance, and mental-wellness support for you and immediate family
- • Home-office stipend (€1,500 initial setup plus €300 yearly refresh) and co-working space reimbursement up to €250 per month
