• As a Software Engineer on the Cloudflare One initiative, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of enterprise networking and security. Cloudflare One is a comprehensive cloud-based network-as-a-service solution that unifies networking, application security, and access controls into a single, powerful platform. This solution is designed to replace outdated legacy systems like VPNs and firewalls, offering a seamless, cloud-delivered experience for modern enterprises. It enables organizations to securely connect users, devices, offices, and applications, irrespective of their geographical location, ensuring fast, reliable, and consistent security controls for remote workforces and distributed infrastructure.
• This role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical systems that underpin Cloudflare's expansive network and Zero Trust offerings. You will contribute to the development and enhancement of a wide array of sophisticated systems. These include a high-performance Linux kernel-based networking dataplane that processes traffic from some of the world's largest networks, and a userspace networking service that acts as a central hub connecting our Network Services and Zero Trust systems, ensuring seamless integration for all our products.
• You will also be involved in building control plane systems that empower customers to define complex network configurations with simplicity. Furthermore, you will develop products that provide customers with deep insights into their Cloud/SaaS security posture and trends in their network traffic and product usage. The scope of work extends to backend systems that facilitate customer device management through our Zero Trust Network solution, and a Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) forward-proxy responsible for inspecting and filtering device traffic. Additionally, you will contribute to leveraging threat intelligence, integrating data from external sources and Cloudflare's vast internal data to provide actionable insights across various Cloudflare products.
• As a Software Engineer, your responsibilities will span the entire software development lifecycle. You will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining scalable software systems that form the backbone of our global network services and Zero Trust platforms. This involves developing robust, high-performance networking code, primarily using modern systems-level programming languages such as Rust and Go. You will collaborate closely with product managers and cross-functional engineering teams to conceptualize and deliver innovative solutions that address critical challenges in connectivity, security, and performance for our enterprise clients.
• A significant part of your role will involve participating in the design and integration of RESTful APIs and backend systems, with a particular focus on asynchronous and distributed architectures. You will be expected to uphold the highest standards of code quality through rigorous documentation, comprehensive testing, and strict adherence to industry best practices. Troubleshooting, optimizing, and scaling distributed systems deployed across our global infrastructure will be a key aspect of your work, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our services.
• This position requires a versatile engineer who can operate effectively at both the systems level – delving into operating system intricacies and networking primitives – and the application level, focusing on user and API-facing components. You will directly contribute to the overall reliability, security, and scalability of Cloudflare's infrastructure, including the integration of on-premise and cloud environments. We are seeking engineers of all experience levels who are eager to learn, adapt, and contribute to a fast-paced, innovative environment, driving the evolution of how the Internet is secured and connected.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in systems-level programming languages such as Rust, Go, or similar.
• Solid understanding of core networking concepts (TCP/IP, UDP, VPNs, firewalls, DNS, QUIC, HTTP, proxying).
• Experience with the design and development of distributed, asynchronous backend architectures.
• Willingness and enthusiasm to learn new programming languages, technologies, and systems.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration.
