📋 Description

• As a Software Engineer, Developer Experience (AI) at Clay Labs Inc., you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of software engineering by building the infrastructure and tooling that enable both human engineers and AI coding agents to work more effectively within a rapidly evolving codebase. This role is critical to Clay’s mission of turning growth ideas into reality through innovative, AI-augmented development practices, ensuring that engineering teams can move faster with less friction while maintaining safety and quality in production systems.
• You will design and build systems that enhance developer productivity across the full software lifecycle, including monorepo organization and orchestration, CI/CD pipeline evaluation for agent-generated changes, cloud-based development environments, and mechanisms to expose rich codebase context to coding agents. Your work will enable automated refactors, migrations, and bug fixing, while establishing metrics, dashboards, and feedback loops to continuously improve the engineering experience.
• You will join a high-impact infrastructure team within Clay’s fast-growing engineering organization, which is dedicated to enabling the company to leverage the latest AI advancements in software development. The team operates with a strong emphasis on autonomy, creativity, and systems thinking, aligned with Clay’s unique operating principles such as negative maintenance and non-attached action.
• In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence how software is built at the forefront of AI integration, gaining deep expertise in developer experience, internal platform engineering, and AI-augmented workflows. You will collaborate closely with engineers across the organization to identify friction points and co-create solutions that compound engineering productivity over time.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience building developer tooling, internal platforms, or engineering infrastructure that improves workflow efficiency and system reliability.
• Strong commitment to enhancing developer experience and removing obstacles to productivity, with a mindset focused on systems thinking and long-term enablement.
• Passion for designing and implementing automation in complex workflows, particularly those involving code integration, testing, and validation.
• Enthusiasm for exploring how AI can transform the software development lifecycle, coupled with a willingness to experiment and learn—prior AI experience is not required.
• Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable code and take end-to-end ownership of systems, from design through deployment and monitoring.
