📋 Description

• • Own the evolution of Pair Eyewear’s prescription-lifecycle platform, the invisible engine that turns a customer’s first click into a perfectly crafted pair of glasses on their doorstep. You will refactor, extend, and scale the Ruby on Rails services that orchestrate prescriptions, insurance claims, and manufacturing hand-offs—touching every order we ship.
• • Partner daily with Product Managers to translate ambitious OKRs into sprint-sized epics. You’ll break down multi-month initiatives like “zero-touch insurance approvals” into weekly deliverables, write clear technical specs, and keep Jira boards honest with accurate story points and acceptance criteria.
• • Champion code quality and shared ownership across a tight-knit backend team. Expect to open pull requests that are models of clarity, conduct empathetic code reviews, and jump into pair-programming sessions that level-up junior engineers while surfacing edge cases early.
• • Optimize for performance and reliability at scale. Our order volume triples every holiday season; you’ll profile SQL queries, introduce caching layers, and tune AWS ECS task definitions so that Black-Friday traffic feels like any other Tuesday.
• • Design resilient integrations with external partners—vision-insurance APIs, optical labs, and Shopify Plus webhooks—anticipating failures, implementing retries with exponential backoff, and surfacing actionable alerts in Slack and Datadog.
• • Collaborate cross-functionally with Data, Design, and Operations to surface real-time insights. You’ll build new GraphQL endpoints so analysts can answer “Which frame colors drive the highest reorder rate?” without writing raw SQL.
• • Mentor and be mentored. You’ll lead small epics, run architecture brown-bags on topics like “Event sourcing for prescription state machines,” and seek feedback from senior engineers on everything from domain modeling to career growth.
• • Contribute to a culture of psychological safety and joy. Whether it’s a thoughtful emoji in Slack or a lunch-and-learn on Ruby 3.3 features, you’ll help Pair remain a place where engineers bring their whole selves to work.
• • Iterate in a fully remote environment that spans four time zones. You’ll master asynchronous communication—Loom videos, Notion docs, RFCs—while still making space for the occasional Zoom whiteboard jam.
• • Drive continuous deployment best practices. You’ll expand our CI pipeline to run parallel RSpec suites, enforce 90 % test coverage gates, and automate blue-green deploys so every merged PR reaches production safely within minutes.
