  • • Availity is seeking a highly capable and assertive Software Engineer III to join our dynamic Essentials Platform team, a critical component of our mission to revolutionize healthcare technology. This team is responsible for a suite of over 20 microservices and shared libraries that form the backbone of our internal Essentials portals, applications, and developer teams across the organization. If you are passionate about building well-architected, scalable, and resilient systems, and thrive in an environment that champions pristine engineering practices and continuous improvement, this role is an exceptional opportunity to make a significant impact.
  • • As a Software Engineer III, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and operating robust backend services. Your primary focus will be on enhancing the platform's capabilities, ensuring its reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency, particularly within a cloud-native environment. You will contribute to a culture of innovation, helping the team to operate leaner, faster, cleaner, and more cost-effectively.
  • • Our internal development teams are our customers, and our success is directly tied to the platform's reliability, performance, the clarity of its system health, and the ease with which it can be consumed. You will play a pivotal role in achieving these goals by owning services end-to-end, from initial development and rigorous testing to seamless deployment and proactive monitoring and support.
  • • You will collaborate closely with an engaged Product Owner, participating actively in Scrum-based sprint planning and contributing to our release cadence of weekly minor updates and monthly major releases. This agile approach ensures that we are consistently delivering value and adapting to the evolving needs of our internal stakeholders.
  • • A core aspect of this role involves raising the overall engineering bar within the team and the organization. This means writing clean, maintainable, and thoroughly tested code, advocating for and implementing strong software engineering principles, and continuously refining our processes, tooling, and standards. Your contributions will directly influence the quality and sustainability of our platform.
  • • You will be empowered to improve system performance, enhance reliability, and optimize cloud cost efficiency. This requires a deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud-native best practices. You will actively participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and critical solution trade-off decisions, bringing your expertise to bear on complex technical challenges.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to mentor and collaborate with a small, high-trust team of 4 engineers. You will share your knowledge, learn from your peers, and contribute to a supportive and growth-oriented team environment. Your ability to be opinionated yet collaborative will be key to fostering a productive and innovative atmosphere.
  • • The Essentials Platform team is at the forefront of Availity's technological advancements, enabling other teams to build and deliver innovative healthcare solutions. Your work will directly contribute to Availity's mission of bringing the focus back to patient care by empowering healthcare professionals with the tools and insights they need to thrive.
  • • You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining backend services and shared libraries, primarily utilizing Java. A strong emphasis will be placed on developing solutions that are scalable, resilient, fault-tolerant, and highly observable, ensuring operational excellence.
  • • The ideal candidate possesses an engineering mindset that extends beyond just coding. You will demonstrate a deep care for code quality, a keen understanding of system behavior in production, and a commitment to long-term sustainability. You are energized by the prospect of improving systems to make them faster, more reliable, easier to operate, and cheaper to run.
  • • You will not be afraid to step into unfamiliar technology, learn it deeply, and apply that knowledge to solve challenging problems. This role is perfect for an engineer who is eager to grow their skills and contribute to a company that is a certified "Great Place to Work" and recognized for its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and employee well-being.
