- • Availity is a leading healthcare technology company dedicated to transforming the healthcare landscape by focusing on patient care and empowering healthcare professionals. As the premier healthcare engagement platform, Availity connects over 2 million providers with health plans, processing more than 13 billion transactions annually. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineer IV to join our dynamic Provider Lifecycle Solutions (PLS) Development team. This senior technical role is crucial for building and maintaining the critical products that ensure accurate, timely, and compliant provider lifecycle data for our healthcare partners.
- • In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and operating data-intensive backend systems and services that form the backbone of core PLS workflows. Your expertise will be applied to distributed systems, cloud-native services, and large-scale data processing pipelines. While the primary focus is on backend development, a strong understanding of and willingness to contribute to full-stack features and UI layers is highly valued, especially when it enhances the delivery of complete, end-to-end solutions for our users.
- • You will play a key role in setting high engineering standards, influencing architectural direction, and mentoring junior developers. Collaboration with product and engineering leaders will be essential to ensure the delivery of high-quality software that not only meets customer needs but also supports the operational excellence of the organization. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on a platform that touches millions of lives and drives efficiency in the healthcare ecosystem.
- • Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and resilient cloud-native backend services and data pipelines that support critical PLS workflows. You will build and evolve event-driven services, data processing components, and APIs utilizing a robust tech stack including Java, Scala, Python, Apache Spark, and various AWS-managed services. This involves implementing and optimizing both batch and streaming data ingestion and processing workflows, ensuring data quality and system performance are continuously improved.
- • You will be tasked with enhancing system stability, refining workflows, optimizing service designs, and closing monitoring and alerting gaps to ensure the reliability of our platform. A significant part of the role involves leading the maturation of prototypes and proof-of-concepts into production-ready services, contributing to the modernization of legacy components into modular, maintainable, and extensible architectures. This includes strengthening CI/CD pipelines, implementing infrastructure-as-code, enhancing automated testing frameworks, and upholding overall engineering rigor.
- • Writing and maintaining comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests is a fundamental aspect of this role, ensuring the quality and reliability of the software developed. You will partner closely with product management, architects, and fellow engineering peers to drive roadmap execution and deliver high-quality, customer-ready solutions. Furthermore, you will actively mentor and coach other engineers, elevating coding practices, architectural thinking, and product quality across the entire PLS organization.
- • This role requires a proactive and adaptable individual who can plan work effectively, set clear directions, and coordinate tasks across a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to adapt to evolving priorities and changes in direction is essential. A collaborative attitude is paramount, as you will work closely with product owners, engineers, analysts, and architects across multiple PLS product lines. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts and participate effectively in pair-programming and technical discussions, are vital for success.
- • Availity is recognized as a certified “Great Place to Work,” a “Best Workplaces for Technology Companies,” a “Best Workplaces for Women,” and a “Best Workplaces for Millennials.” We foster a culture of continuous learning, offering numerous resources and experts to support professional growth. Our commitment to Diversity & Inclusion is evident through various employee resource groups such as “AvaiLadies,” “Beyond Black,” “HOLA,” “Availity Pride,” “VetAvaility,” and a Young Professionals Group, as well as “She Can Code IT” for women in tech.
- • We offer a competitive compensation package, including a bonus structure, generous HSA company contributions, comprehensive healthcare, vision, and dental benefits, and a 401k match program available from day one. Salaried associates enjoy unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO) plus 9 paid holidays, while hourly associates start with 19 days of PTO. We also support employee well-being through a wellness reimbursement program of up to $250/year for gym memberships and other activities, and offer education reimbursement for those looking to further their studies. - • Please note that sponsorship is not available for this position. All candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. A video camera is required for all virtual meetings to foster a connected, interactive, and productive remote environment, ensuring security and protecting sensitive company information. This role is fully remote within the United States.
