- • As a Lab Automation Software Engineer at Plasmidsaurus, you will play a crucial role in automating and optimizing the company’s sample processing pipeline, directly enabling faster, more reliable genomic sequencing for scientists worldwide. Your work will increase lab throughput, reduce manual technician effort, and improve yield and reliability across thousands of samples per day, accelerating breakthroughs in biotech, medicine, and sustainable innovation.
- • You will develop, deploy, and maintain production-quality software that orchestrates robotic platforms and lab instruments across a global network of laboratories, ensuring systems operate unattended overnight and fail safely when real-world conditions deviate from expectations.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include writing Python code to control robotic systems and integrate with lab instruments; building RESTful APIs, backend services, and internal web tools to coordinate sample processing workflows; collaborating with scientists to productionize new lab protocols by translating biological workflows into scalable automation solutions; developing monitoring and alerting systems to proactively detect and resolve issues in the robot fleet; and creating infrastructure to deploy computer vision models (using OpenCV, PyTorch, etc.) for real-time sample inspection and anomaly detection.
- • You will also contribute to infrastructure-as-code practices on AWS, work with Linux servers, and apply SQL and data modeling skills to manage sequencing metadata and instrument telemetry.
- • Plasmidsaurus is a mission-driven biotech company revolutionizing genomics by making sequencing exponentially faster, cheaper, and more accessible—used daily by Nobel laureates, Fortune 100 pharma, and over 70,000 scientists. The company culture emphasizes high agency, ownership, curiosity, and collaboration, valuing lifelong learners who thrive in fast-paced, tight-knit teams and are excited to enable scientific breakthroughs through software.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in lab automation, real-time systems, and edge computing while gaining hands-on experience with computer vision, robotics integration, and scalable backend architectures. You’ll have the opportunity to lead projects from concept to production, directly impact global scientific productivity, and grow your skills at the intersection of software, hardware, and biotechnology in a purpose-driven environment.
