📋 Description

• Join Quora as a Software Engineer on our Data Infrastructure team, a critical component powering our mission to grow the world's collective intelligence. This is an exceptional opportunity for a new graduate to dive into the complexities of large-scale data systems and make a tangible impact on our globally recognized platforms, Quora and Poe.
• As a member of our small, agile data infrastructure team, you will be instrumental in owning and evolving our entire data ecosystem. This includes the data lake, robust data pipelines, high-performance query engines, sophisticated A/B testing infrastructure, insightful dashboards, and essential visualization tools. You will work with and contribute to a modern tech stack built on open-source technologies such as Kafka, Iceberg, Trino, Spark, and Airflow, with Python as our primary programming language.
• This role is designed for individuals with a strong foundational understanding of computer science principles and a genuine curiosity for infrastructure challenges, rather than requiring prior data infrastructure experience. We are committed to your growth and development, offering a comprehensive mentorship program and hands-on technical training from day one. You will be entrusted with meaningful projects across our entire stack, allowing you to learn, contribute, and take ownership.
• Your primary focus will be on enhancing the reliability and efficiency of our critical data services. This involves identifying and implementing improvements that drive significant cost savings and performance gains, directly impacting our operational effectiveness and bottom line. You will also play a key role in boosting productivity across the company by improving the developer tools that our engineers rely on daily.
• You will contribute to the implementation of scalable and efficient data architectures, ensuring that the data needs of our data scientists, engineers, and business partners are met with precision and speed. This requires a proactive approach to understanding diverse data requirements and translating them into robust technical solutions.
• Actively participate in the team’s planning process, contributing to discussions about team priorities, and proposing innovative project ideas as you deepen your knowledge and ownership of our data-infrastructure systems. Your insights and suggestions will be valued and encouraged.
• A significant aspect of your role will involve identifying and implementing improvements to system cost efficiency. This means actively seeking opportunities to reduce data storage and processing costs without compromising performance or reliability, contributing to Quora's sustainable growth.
• You will be an integral part of the team’s on-call rotation, providing essential support to resolve timely reliability incidents. This experience will offer invaluable exposure to real-world operational challenges and the critical importance of system uptime.

🎯 Requirements

• A 2025 or 2026 graduate with or pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Availability for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's “coordination hours” (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time).
• Demonstrated interest in scalability challenges and infrastructure technologies.
• A passion for learning, continuous self-improvement, and contributing to team growth.
• Previous software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, or coding competition (preferred).
• Knowledge of Python and SQL (preferred).
