• • We are seeking a versatile and proactive Platform and Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic and expanding engineering team of 20 developers. This role is pivotal in shaping the technical backbone of Spellbook, enabling us to scale effectively and deliver exceptional AI-driven experiences to our clients. You will operate across our entire technology stack, from the core infrastructure hosted on AWS, including MongoDB, infrastructure as code practices, and robust monitoring with Datadog, to the platform capabilities that underpin our product development and ensure system reliability.
• • As a generalist engineer, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining the foundational systems that power Spellbook. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to innovate and serve our growing customer base. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain broad experience and make a significant impact on a rapidly scaling technology company.
• • The core of your responsibilities will revolve around three key pillars:
• • **Building Technology Foundations:** You will take ownership of and continuously evolve our foundational platform systems. This includes critical areas such as identity and access management, the design and implementation of core data models, and the development of internal platform capabilities that streamline operations and enhance product functionality. Your work will ensure that our platform is robust, secure, and ready for future expansion.
• • **Maintaining World-Class Quality:** A primary focus will be on driving our service levels towards an ambitious target of 99.5% uptime. This will involve enhancing our monitoring and observability practices, implementing proactive reliability engineering strategies, and establishing strong quality assurance foundations. You will also contribute to defining and enforcing development best practices across the engineering team, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality software.
• • **Enabling Development Velocity:** You will play a crucial role in optimizing our development environment and CI/CD pipelines to minimize friction and maximize developer productivity. This includes identifying bottlenecks, implementing tooling improvements, and potentially introducing new metrics to track and enhance our team's speed and efficiency. The goal is to empower our developers to move with exceptional agility and focus on delivering value to our customers.
• • Your day-to-day responsibilities will span a wide range of critical engineering functions. You will be involved in infrastructure management and optimization, leveraging AWS services and infrastructure as code tools. You will work on core platform capabilities, including authentication, authorization, entitlement systems, and potentially the infrastructure supporting AI inference. Improving our CI/CD pipelines, enhancing build tooling, and managing worker queues (e.g., BullMQ) will also be key areas of focus. Furthermore, you will contribute to API development using modern frameworks like tRPC, drive improvements in developer experience, and implement robust monitoring and observability solutions using tools like Datadog. Performance optimization and ensuring the overall reliability of our services will be an ongoing priority.
