• Are you a seasoned Software Engineer with a passion for building foundational financial technology and a desire to work at the forefront of innovation? Column is seeking a talented Product Engineer to join our dynamic, developer-first company. We are a bank and a software company, built from the ground up to offer builders and developers a simpler, safer, and more transparent banking supply chain. This means cutting out the hundreds of vendors, middleware providers, and abstraction layers that have historically plagued the industry, creating a streamlined process from user to bank to Federal Reserve.
• As a Product Engineer at Column, you will be instrumental in developing the interfaces, APIs, and backend systems that define how our customers interact with our cutting-edge platform. This is a unique opportunity to work across the full stack, utilizing TypeScript and React for our intuitive customer-facing dashboard, and Go for our robust backend services. You will report directly to our CEO, fostering a close relationship with leadership, and will collaborate intimately with our Head of Design to shape the product's direction and user experience. Unlike traditional organizations, Column operates without Product Managers. This means you will own the complete lifecycle of your projects, from initial concept and specification through to deployment and ongoing iteration. You will have direct exposure to our customers, meeting with them to understand their needs and how your work performs in real-world scenarios.

• Key responsibilities will include:
• Designing, building, and maintaining critical user-facing features and internal systems that drive the Column platform forward.
• Writing high-quality, clean, and thoroughly tested TypeScript and Golang code, adhering to best practices and ensuring maintainability.
• Architecting, documenting, and implementing robust APIs, taking full responsibility for their reliability and performance in production.
• Collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, compliance, business development, and directly with customers, to gather feedback and iterate on product functionality.
• Actively contributing to product strategy and direction by translating user feedback and market insights directly into design and development decisions.
• Taking complete ownership of projects, from the initial ideation phase through to successful launch and post-launch monitoring and enhancement.
• Proactively identifying opportunities for improvement in our platform, processes, and tooling.
• Contributing to a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning within the engineering team.
• Ensuring the security, scalability, and performance of all developed solutions, aligning with Column's commitment to providing a best-in-class banking infrastructure.
• Participating in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers, and maintaining a high standard of code quality across the team.
• Staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure Column remains at the cutting edge of financial technology.
• You will be an integral part of a team that values speed, quality, and a deep understanding of the problem space. Your work will directly influence the growth and success of Column and the businesses that rely on our platform. This role is based in San Francisco, with an expectation to work from our Presidio office three days a week, fostering collaboration and team cohesion.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality software.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and experience building complex applications with it.
• Experience with a strongly typed backend language such as Go, Rust, or Java, and a solid understanding of SQL databases.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and drive product decisions from conception to completion.
• Willingness and enthusiasm to engage directly with customers to understand their needs and gather valuable feedback.
• A consistently high bar for code quality, clarity, performance, and maintainability.
