Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Join Arista Networks’ OpenConfig team and help architect the next-generation, software-defined data-center fabric that powers the world’s largest cloud and enterprise networks. You will work 100 % remotely from Hungary, Romania, Greece or Spain, collaborating daily with a globally distributed group of engineers who literally started from a blank sheet of paper to build EOS—the only networking OS that marries Linux openness with carrier-grade resiliency.
  • • Design and implement model-driven, declarative configuration pipelines that let operators describe their intent in YAML/JSON and watch the network converge automatically. Your code will translate OpenConfig YANG models into transactional state changes inside Arista’s in-memory SysDB, ensuring zero-touch provisioning of thousands of switches and routers.
  • • Extend the publish-subscribe state-sharing architecture that underpins every EOS process. You will craft C/C++ and Go services that react to state mutations in real time, guaranteeing hitless upgrades, process restartability and sub-second failure recovery without impacting live traffic.
  • • Contribute to the single-image philosophy: one EOS binary that boots on a 1 Gb campus switch, a 400 Gb spine router, a KVM virtual machine or a Docker container. You will write portable code that detects hardware capabilities at runtime and adapts feature sets accordingly, eliminating the “matrix hell” of multiple OS trains.
  • • Build open-source-friendly tooling—think Ansible collections, Terraform providers and gRPC-based streaming telemetry—that let DevOps teams treat network devices as cattle, not pets. Your APIs will be consumed by Fortune-500 CI/CD pipelines to push configuration changes hundreds of times per day with zero human intervention.
  • • Optimize low-level Linux datapath components (DPDK, eBPF, kernel bypass) to deliver line-rate forwarding while exposing counters and operational state through standard OpenConfig paths. You will profile hot paths, remove lock contention and ensure telemetry never perturbs production traffic.
  • • Participate in architecture reviews where every design starts with a threat model and ends with automated tests in a multi-tenant lab that replicates the scale of AWS, Azure and Google combined. Your pull requests will be reviewed by the original authors of the routing protocols you use every day.
  • • Own features end-to-end: from capturing customer intent in user stories, through writing unit and property-based tests, to shepherding releases through Canary, Beta and GA rings. You will monitor live deployments via Prometheus and Grafana dashboards that you helped create.
  • • Mentor junior engineers across Europe via pair programming and design clinics. You will champion clean code, rigorous code reviews and a blameless post-mortem culture that turns outages into shared learning.
  • • Influence the open networking community by submitting patches to upstream Linux, FRR, and OpenConfig projects. Your GitHub handle will appear next to features that eventually run on millions of devices worldwide.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 3+ years of production-grade C/C++ or Go development on Linux, including debugging with gdb, perf, eBPF and familiar tooling
  • • Solid understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EVPN, VXLAN) and YANG data-modeling experience
  • • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI) and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible or Terraform
  • • Nice-to-have: contributions to open-source projects (Linux kernel, FRR, DPDK, OpenConfig), container runtimes (Docker, Kubernetes) or prior work on distributed systems at scale

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Fully remote-first culture—work from home, a co-working space or a beach in Greece; we ship your lab gear to your door
  • • Annual training budget (conferences, courses, certifications) plus five paid learning days
  • • Stock purchase plan and equity refresh grants that have historically outperformed FAANG
  • • Flexible PTO policy, regional meet-ups twice a year in European tech hubs, and a hardware refresh every 24 months
