Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Arista Networks is actively seeking exceptionally talented and motivated Software Engineers to become integral members of our world-class Extensible Operating System (EOS) software development team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the very foundation of the networking infrastructure that powers the largest data centers globally. As a core contributor to EOS, you will immerse yourself in a dynamic, high-caliber environment, developing cutting-edge features that ensure the seamless operation of Arista's extensive product portfolio. Your work will directly impact the performance, reliability, and scalability of cloud and enterprise data center networks.
- • The EOS team is entrusted with the comprehensive lifecycle of our network operating system, from initial conception and development through to rigorous testing and final delivery. This encompasses all facets of software designed to run on Arista's diverse range of data center networking hardware. You will collaborate closely with fellow engineers, product managers, and marketing teams to meticulously gather and interpret both functional and technical requirements for upcoming projects. This collaborative process ensures that our software not only meets but anticipates the evolving needs of the industry.
- • A significant aspect of your role will involve translating these requirements into tangible software solutions. You will be instrumental in authoring detailed functional specifications, meticulously crafting design specifications that outline the architectural blueprint, and developing comprehensive test plans to validate the integrity and performance of your code. The ultimate goal is to bring these innovative features to life through robust and efficient C and C++ programming.
- • Beyond internal development, you will engage directly with our customer base. This includes actively participating in the triage and resolution of complex issues encountered in customer networks. This customer-facing aspect provides invaluable real-world feedback, allowing you to understand the practical challenges faced by users and to contribute directly to enhancing their network stability and performance.
- • Internally, your responsibilities will extend to the development and maintenance of automated testing frameworks. You will be responsible for creating, executing, and monitoring these automated tests, diligently identifying, triaging, and rectifying any defects or anomalies discovered. This commitment to automated testing is paramount in ensuring the high quality and reliability of Arista's software.
- • At Arista, we empower our engineers with end-to-end ownership. You will guide your projects from the initial stages of definition and design through to final deployment and ongoing support. This comprehensive ownership model fosters a deep sense of accountability and ensures the unwavering quality of everything you deliver. You will be the architect and guardian of your creations.
- • This role demands a strong foundation in broad software engineering principles, coupled with a keen interest in networking technologies. An ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of Layer 2 (L2) and Layer 3 (L3) networking concepts, as well as a fundamental grasp of commercial switching hardware capabilities. Your contributions will not be confined to a single niche within EOS; rather, you will have the opportunity to engage with and influence all aspects of our sophisticated network operating system.
- • Key responsibilities include:
- • Authoring clear and concise functional specifications and detailed design specifications for features critical to forwarding traffic across the internet and within cloud data centers.
- • Independently designing and implementing robust solutions for small-to-medium sized problems within our EOS software, primarily utilizing C and C++.
- • Developing comprehensive test plan specifications for features, and subsequently implementing automated test programs to rigorously execute these defined test cases.
- • Proactively debugging issues identified by our automated test programs and implementing effective fixes.
- • Collaborating within a team environment to implement, test, and debug solutions for complex routing protocol challenges.
- • Working closely with Customer Support Engineers to analyze intricate problems within customer networks and delivering timely fixes through new software releases or patches.
- • Partnering with System Test Engineers to diagnose and resolve issues identified during their testing phases.
- • Mentoring new and junior engineers, facilitating their integration into Arista's sophisticated software development environment and best practices.
- • Actively reviewing and contributing to the specifications and code implementations developed by other team members, fostering a culture of shared learning and quality.
- • Assisting in the creation and weekly updating of project implementation and debugging schedules, reporting progress and any potential roadblocks to the project lead.
