📋 Description

• As a Software Engineering Intern on Calix's Cloud Platform team, you will contribute to the development and enhancement of the company's in-house cloud infrastructure solutions, playing a direct role in supporting scalable, reliable application deployments across AWS and GCP environments.
• You will partner with experienced cloud engineers to design, implement, and document Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform and Ansible, ensuring consistent and automated provisioning of cloud resources for internal development and production workloads.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities will include writing and testing infrastructure scripts in Python, Java, Go, or similar languages, managing cloud resources via AWS/GCP services, and maintaining technical documentation to support team knowledge sharing and onboarding.
• You will actively participate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including reviewing requirements, engaging in peer code reviews, contributing to sprint planning, and providing post-deployment support to ensure system stability and performance.
• Working within Calix’s award-winning Products Team, you will collaborate in a remote-first, agile environment that emphasizes innovation, continuous learning, and cross-functional teamwork across engineering, product, and operations groups.
• This internship offers a structured 90-day program designed to build your technical expertise in cloud engineering, DevOps practices, and infrastructure automation, while strengthening your communication, problem-solving, and collaborative skills in a real-world enterprise setting.
• You will gain hands-on experience with modern DevOps toolchains, including Git-based source control, CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management, preparing you for a successful career in cloud-native software engineering or platform engineering.
• By the end of the internship, you will have contributed to tangible improvements in Calix’s cloud platform capabilities, built a professional portfolio of work, and received mentorship from senior engineers—positioning you strongly for future full-time opportunities in technology.

🎯 Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, with preference given to juniors, seniors, or those with prior internship or work experience.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible, including experience writing playbooks for automation and pipeline orchestration.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages including Python, Java, Go, or similar, with demonstrated understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming principles.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP), including provisioning, configuring, and managing services such as compute, storage, networking, and databases.
• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, Presto, AlloyDB, or BigQuery in development or automation contexts.
• Comfortable using Linux operating systems (Ubuntu and/or RHEL) for development, scripting, and system administration tasks.
• Proficient with source control management systems like Git (or Stash/Bitbucket) for version control, branching, and collaborative code development.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment with clear telephone and virtual presence.
• Availability to work full-time for the entire summer break (May–August or June–September) to complete the 90-day internship program.

• Competitive hourly pay ranging from $24.00–$30.00 USD for most U.S. locations and $27.60–$34.50 USD for the San Francisco Bay Area, adjusted based on geographic location and experience.
