Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Shape the sonic identity of Gravitywell’s next-generation titles as our Sound Designer. You will own the full audio pipeline—from concept to console—crafting everything from the guttural roar of a 30-foot boss to the delicate shimmer of an open-world ambience layer.
- • Collaborate daily with artists, animators, game designers, and narrative leads to translate visual concepts and emotional beats into soundscapes that players feel in their bones. Your work will directly influence how millions experience story, combat, exploration, and triumph.
- • Design and record original source material for characters, weapons, environments, UI, abilities, cinematics, and interactive music stems. You’ll build libraries that are modular, efficient, and future-proof, ensuring every asset can be remixed, randomized, or dynamically layered without breaking memory budgets.
- • Author complex real-time audio systems in Audiokinetic Wwise, leveraging RTPCs, States, Switches, and Containers to create reactive, context-sensitive mixes. Partner with our Technical Sound Designer to integrate these systems into Unreal Engine via Blueprints and C++ hooks, guaranteeing seamless playback across PC, console, and cloud platforms.
- • Implement mix snapshots and HDR mastering chains that adapt to chaotic firefights, quiet exploration, and cinematic cutscenes without ever losing clarity or emotional punch. You’ll define loudness standards, distance models, occlusion curves, and reverb profiles that scale from intimate interiors to sprawling sci-fi cityscapes.
- • Iterate rapidly on feedback from directors, QA, and the player community. Use telemetry and mix analytics to fine-tune frequency balance, dynamic range, and spatial positioning, ensuring accessibility options like subtitles, visual cues, and hearing-impaired modes are baked into the design from day one.
- • Mentor junior sound designers and contractors, reviewing asset quality, sharing recording techniques, and documenting best practices in our internal wiki. You’ll champion a culture of sonic excellence that raises the bar for every discipline.
- • Contribute to pre-production planning by providing time estimates, risk assessments, and hardware needs for field recording trips. Whether you’re capturing firearms on a desert range or Foley-ing alien creature vocals in your home studio, you’ll plan logistics that keep the team on schedule and under budget.
- • Stay ahead of industry trends—exploring procedural audio, machine-learning driven synthesis, and next-gen console audio APIs—then prototype experimental features that could become signature elements of future Gravitywell titles.
- • Work 100 % remotely across US and Canadian time zones, with optional access to our California office for recording sessions, team meet-ups, and playtests. We value asynchronous communication and results over clock-watching, so you’ll enjoy deep-focus blocks to perfect every footstep, explosion, and musical swell.
