• • As a Senior Software Engineer at Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining complex software systems that directly support the company’s mission to empower individuals, families, and businesses toward financial security. Your work will ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of critical applications used by financial professionals and clients nationwide.
• • You will lead end-to-end software development initiatives, translating business needs into robust technical solutions while mentoring junior engineers, driving architectural decisions, and championing innovation in a remote-first environment that values technical excellence and collaboration.
• • Penn Mutual’s engineering team operates at the intersection of legacy stability and modern innovation, supporting core insurance and wealth management platforms with a focus on long-term maintainability, security, and compliance. • • Day to day, you will: Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex software systems using Java, Python, or JavaScript; collaborate with product, architecture, and operations teams to gather and refine technical requirements; provide technical leadership through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing sessions; drive adoption of CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Bamboo; diagnose and resolve production issues to ensure high system availability and performance; evaluate and recommend emerging technologies such as cloud-native architectures and containerization; mentor junior engineers in best practices for code quality, testing, and documentation; partner with Architecture teams to align solutions with enterprise standards for scalability, security, and observability; participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies to plan, estimate, and deliver iterative improvements; and communicate technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
