  • • As a Senior Staff DevOps Engineer specializing in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) at Dexcom, you will play a critical role in architecting, implementing, and optimizing robust, scalable, and secure cloud-based solutions. Your expertise will be instrumental in leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and the full capabilities of GCP to meet and exceed the organization's evolving technological needs. This position is not just about building systems; it's about fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, mentorship, and continuous improvement. You will be a key contributor to our mission of transforming healthcare through innovative technology, empowering individuals to take control of their health.
  • • **Architecting Advanced GCP Solutions:** You will be at the forefront of designing sophisticated and resilient architectures on GCP. This involves a deep dive into understanding complex business requirements and translating them into technical blueprints. You will evaluate and integrate a wide array of GCP services, ensuring solutions are optimized for performance, reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Your architectural vision will also encompass multi-cloud strategies, considering interconnections with Azure and AWS, as well as facility networking, to create a cohesive and powerful cloud ecosystem.
  • • **Championing Infrastructure as Code (IaC):** A core responsibility will be the implementation and advancement of IaC practices. You will utilize leading tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Google Cloud Deployment Manager to automate the provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources. This ensures consistency, repeatability, and efficiency across our cloud infrastructure, significantly reducing manual effort and the potential for human error.
  • • **Leveraging Serverless Technologies:** You will design and implement cutting-edge serverless architectures to build highly scalable and cost-efficient solutions. This includes working with Google Cloud Functions, AWS Lambda, and other serverless offerings, optimizing their workflows, and ensuring seamless integration with other cloud services. Your focus will be on creating agile and responsive systems that can adapt to fluctuating demands.
  • • **Mastery of GKE and Kubernetes:** Demonstrating deep expertise in Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and Kubernetes is paramount. You will guide the team in designing and implementing a comprehensive containerization strategy, managing containerized platforms to ensure high availability, scalability, and efficient resource utilization. This involves configuring and optimizing GKE clusters, enforcing best practices for Kubernetes management, and proactively troubleshooting any issues within the containerized environment.
  • • **Securing Cloud Networking at the Edge:** You will be responsible for designing and implementing secure, high-performance cloud networking solutions. This encompasses configuring virtual networks, managing network security groups, implementing robust cloud firewalls, and ensuring strict adherence to security standards and compliance regulations. Continuous monitoring and optimization of network performance, along with proactive troubleshooting and close collaboration with security teams, will be key to maintaining a secure and efficient network infrastructure.
  • • **Driving Performance, FinOps, and Cost Optimization:** A significant aspect of your role will involve the continuous monitoring and optimization of cloud systems. You will identify performance bottlenecks, areas of resource wastage, and cost inefficiencies. By tuning configurations and implementing best practices, you will ensure our cloud infrastructure operates at peak performance while maintaining financial responsibility. This includes reporting on key performance indicators and cost metrics.
  • • **Ensuring Security and Compliance:** You will be a guardian of our cloud security posture, implementing best practices and ensuring compliance with critical regulations such as HIPAA and GDPR. This involves configuring and managing identity and access management (IAM), network security controls, data encryption, and comprehensive auditing and logging solutions to protect sensitive data and critical resources.
  • • **Fostering Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing:** Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, operations engineers, and security specialists, to ensure alignment on architectural decisions and implementation strategies. A crucial part of your contribution will be documenting design decisions, configurations, and operational procedures, thereby facilitating knowledge sharing, enabling efficient troubleshooting, and mentoring junior team members.
  • • **Technical Leadership and Incident Management:** As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and direction to junior staff, guiding them on both project-based and operational activities. You will serve as the primary technical point of contact during incidents impacting the services your team provides, ensuring rapid and effective resolution.
  • • **Process Development and Improvement:** You will assist the Senior Manager in developing and refining technical processes, operating procedures, and key metrics for the services and technologies under the team's purview, driving continuous improvement across the DevOps function.
  • • **Mentorship and Knowledge Transfer:** A key expectation is your ability to share your extensive knowledge and experience in GCP, IaC, and DevOps best practices with the team, elevating the overall technical capabilities of the group.
  • • **Innovation and Future Technologies:** You will have the opportunity to explore and potentially integrate emerging technologies, including GenAI and associated tools, to further enhance our solutions and maintain Dexcom's position at the forefront of healthcare technology.
  • • Overall, this role is pivotal in shaping Dexcom's cloud strategy, ensuring the delivery of reliable, scalable, and secure cloud-based systems that empower the organization to fully harness the potential of its cloud platforms and advance its life-changing mission.
