Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Join Veriff's Biometric Solutions team as a Staff Applied Research Engineer, a pivotal role focused on advancing the core biometric and liveness detection technologies that form the critical entry point of our automated identity verification funnel.
- • This position is instrumental in driving Veriff's next strategic phase: establishing a high-velocity "Fast-Follower" engine. The primary objective is to dramatically accelerate our adaptation speed, transforming academic breakthroughs into production-grade, proprietary models within weeks rather than months, thereby staying ahead of the ever-evolving global fraud landscape.
- • You will be the crucial bridge connecting cutting-edge theoretical computer vision research with robust, production-ready code that safeguards millions of users worldwide.
- • A key responsibility will be architecting and building the research pipeline infrastructure. This involves creating systems that enable the rapid reproduction and adaptation of state-of-the-art (SOTA) research papers, ensuring our models remain at the forefront of the industry.
- • You will engineer physics-based defenses, developing "attack-agnostic" features. This entails leveraging fundamental principles such as optical flow, specular reflection, and 3D geometry to exploit immutable physical laws that are inherently difficult for attackers to circumvent.
- • A significant part of the role involves solving for domain heterogeneity. This requires implementing advanced Domain Adaptation and Generalization techniques to mitigate performance variances across diverse device types (e.g., iOS vs. Android), demographic groups, and varying environmental conditions, ensuring consistent accuracy and reliability.
- • You will be responsible for optimizing models for SaaS scale, writing high-performance, maintainable Python code. The focus will be on ensuring that complex computer vision models are both cost-efficient and latency-optimized for large-scale deployment.
- • Strategic prototyping will be a core function, where you will work from first principles to determine the most effective approach. This includes deciding whether a novel architecture is necessary or if the solution lies in superior data curation or procedural attack generation techniques.
- • This role demands a deep understanding of computer vision, machine learning, and software engineering principles, applied within a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
- • You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, software engineers, and other researchers, to translate research insights into tangible product features.
- • The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic foundation combined with practical experience in deploying machine learning models in real-world applications.
- • You will contribute to the continuous improvement of our research and development processes, fostering a culture of innovation and scientific rigor.
- • The role offers the opportunity to work on challenging problems at the intersection of AI, computer vision, and cybersecurity, with a direct impact on Veriff's product and user security.
- • You will stay abreast of the latest advancements in computer vision and machine learning research, identifying opportunities to integrate new techniques into Veriff's platform.
- • This position requires a proactive and self-driven individual who can independently manage research projects from conception to deployment.
- • You will play a key role in shaping the future of biometric verification technology at Veriff, contributing to a safer and more secure online world.
- • The work involves rigorous experimentation, detailed analysis, and clear communication of findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- • You will be expected to contribute to the team's knowledge base through documentation, code reviews, and internal presentations.
- • The goal is to build a robust, scalable, and adaptable biometric verification system that sets new industry standards.
- • This role is ideal for someone passionate about applied research, with a strong desire to see their work have a tangible impact on a global scale.
- • You will be empowered to make significant technical decisions and drive innovation within the Biometric Solutions team.
- • The remote work setup in Spain offers flexibility while maintaining a high level of productivity and collaboration.
- • You will be part of a dynamic and growing company that is a leader in the identity verification space.
- • The opportunity to work with a diverse, international team and contribute to a product used by millions worldwide is a significant aspect of this role.
- • You will be instrumental in developing the next generation of biometric security solutions.
- • The emphasis on "Fast-Follower" innovation means you'll be constantly learning and applying new techniques to solve real-world problems.
- • Your work will directly contribute to Veriff's mission of helping businesses and individuals build a safer and more secure world online.
- • This role is for an engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in applied computer vision and biometrics.
