📋 Description

• Join Lookout, Inc., a globally recognized cybersecurity leader, as a Staff Backend Software Engineer on our innovative Security Intelligence team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the core intellectual property that powers Lookout’s category-defining personal and enterprise products, protecting millions from human-centric attacks.
• As a key member of the Security Intelligence team, you will play a pivotal role in developing and enhancing our sophisticated detection engines, advanced analysis systems, and other fundamental technological building blocks of the Lookout Security Platform. This platform is designed for rapid, scalable deployment and simplified security operations, with a primary focus on defending the frontline of human-centric attacks – the mobile device.
• You will tackle some of the most intellectually stimulating challenges within the company, working on a massively scalable platform capable of analyzing millions of applications daily. Our analysis is trusted by industry giants like Google to identify potentially harmful applications before they enter the Play Store, and by leading telecommunications providers worldwide to safeguard their customers.
• This role demands an open-minded and proactive approach, requiring you to explore new, exploratory areas of cybersecurity while also continuously evolving and improving our existing key systems. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to detect and prevent sophisticated threats.
• You will be instrumental in building, monitoring, and maintaining high-volume, low-latency distributed SaaS solutions. The team is responsible for a platform that performs static analysis of iOS and Android applications, applying advanced behavioral and malware detection policies to identify threats before they escalate across an enterprise.
• Collaborate closely with Lookout’s elite security research, data ingestion, and machine learning teams to achieve critical objectives. This includes enabling advanced threat hunting capabilities for state-level security actors and their infrastructure, ensuring robust support for the continuous processing of acquired Android and iOS applications, and identifying specific components and functionalities within mobile applications that reveal their behavior and potential privacy risks.
• You will be at the forefront of innovation, tasked with inventing new app analysis techniques, developing novel detection engines, and potentially creating domain-specific languages to enhance our analytical capabilities. Your creativity and technical prowess will be essential in staying ahead of evolving threats.
• Participate actively in hackathons and innovation fairs, fostering a culture of continuous learning and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in mobile security. This role offers the chance to work across various technical domains, potentially including high-scale cloud systems and directly on mobile platforms, providing a broad and deep engineering experience.
• We are looking for engineers who possess strong software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms. Experience with functional programming is highly desired, as is a desire and ability to work across different platforms and languages. A quality-oriented mindset is paramount, with a strong commitment to automated testing, comprehensive metrics collection, robust monitoring, and continuous improvement in all aspects of your work.
• You will have the opportunity to drive features from conception through to deployment within an agile team environment that embraces continual delivery. This means you’ll see the direct impact of your work on our products and our customers’ security.
• The technologies you will engage with are cutting-edge and diverse, primarily including Scala and Java, with occasional use of Ruby (in JVM). You'll work with iOS, Android, and their respective development toolchains. Database technologies will span Graph, SQL, and NoSQL, including experience with TinkerPop, ElasticSearch, and others. You will also leverage AWS and GCP primitives and distributed technologies to build and scale our platform.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of overall development experience.
• BS degree in Computer Science or similar Engineering discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience designing/implementing large-scale, distributed, production-class software on public cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals: object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
• Functional programming experience is highly desired.
