• • The Cybersecurity Group at SandboxAQ is actively seeking an exceptional Staff Build Infrastructure Engineer. This pivotal role is responsible for constructing the engineering platform that underpins our revolutionary products: AQtive Guard, our Cryptographic Posture Management solution, and our AI Security Posture Management offerings. As we expand our global deployment with major organizations, including top-tier financial institutions and government agencies, the velocity, integrity, and security of our software delivery pipeline are paramount to our sustained success. With our engineering team experiencing significant growth, any delays in the build process are simply not an option. We are searching for a true expert who views the Build System and Continuous Integration (CI) not just as a process, but as a core product in itself.
• • In this capacity, you will assume complete ownership of the end-to-end delivery pipeline. This includes orchestrating the migration of our diverse services into a hermetic Bazel monorepo, which will be underpinned by a massive, Kubernetes-native remote execution cluster, such as BuildBarn or EngFlow. Your primary objective will be to engineer a highly distributed compilation platform engineered to make builds virtually instantaneous and consistently reproducible. You will be instrumental in writing the Starlark rules, developing the control planes, and creating the Kubernetes operators necessary to empower hundreds of engineers to ship code safely and with unprecedented speed. We are looking for a seasoned systems engineer capable of delving into the intricate details of build-related issues while simultaneously possessing the vision for high-level design of complex distributed systems. • • Key Responsibilities:
• • Architect the Build Plane: Lead the comprehensive design and implementation of a high-performance, hermetic build system leveraging Bazel. Your focus will be on optimizing the build graph to support massive concurrency and ensure incremental correctness, minimizing build times and maximizing reliability.
• • Scale Remote Execution: Design, deploy, and meticulously tune a Remote Build Execution (RBE) cluster, utilizing platforms like BuildBarn, operating within a Kubernetes environment. You will be responsible for managing the distributed cache and worker pools to efficiently handle fluctuating demands for compilation across potentially thousands of CPU cores.
• • Engineer Developer Tooling: Develop custom Command Line Interface (CLI) tools and integrate with Integrated Development Environment (IDE) plugins to abstract away the inherent complexities of the build system. Your goal is to create a seamless 'Golden Path' that empowers product engineers to provision hermetic test environments with a single, intuitive command.
• • Modernize CI/CD: Transition our Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes beyond outdated, brittle shell scripts. You will treat pipelines as software, employing GitOps principles with tools like ArgoCD to orchestrate testing workflows that are inherently dynamic, easily testable, and rigorously versioned.
• • Optimize the Inner Loop: Obsessively profile and systematically reduce build latency. You will conduct in-depth analysis of critical build paths, diagnose and resolve cache misses, and author custom Bazel rules to ensure that developer feedback loops are consistently maintained under a few seconds, rather than minutes.
• • Drive Technical Culture: Actively mentor the broader engineering team on best practices for monorepo management, sophisticated dependency management strategies, and the principles of hermeticity. You will be instrumental in setting the industry standard for how code is built, tested, and ultimately released across the organization.
