Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Staff Cloud Infrastructure Engineer at Valon Technologies, you will define and drive the technical direction of the Cloud Infrastructure team within Platform Engineering, shaping the foundational systems that power Valon’s AI-native operating system for regulated finance. This role is critical to enabling the company’s mission to transform mortgage servicing and other regulated industries by building scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure that supports over 100 million background jobs per day and prepares for 10x growth in the next two years.
- • You will architect and lead the adoption of next-generation data stores such as Vitess, Clickhouse, and Redis; design the next generation of batch processing control planes for 10x scale; build production-equivalent sandbox environments for customer onboarding and testing; and define infrastructure strategies for enterprise deployment models that meet stringent security and data residency requirements of top-tier financial institutions.
- • You will work across Valon’s production systems—including compute, databases, storage, and networking—to ensure reliability, scalability, and security, translating business and product needs into long-term infrastructure strategy while operating with high autonomy and ownership.
- • The engineering team at Valon is a tight-knit, high-agency group of engineers from elite technology companies including Stripe, Jane Street, Meta, and Google, united by a shared commitment to doing the best work of their lives while building foundational systems that disrupt outdated, heavily regulated industries.
- • You will serve as a key technical partner to engineering leadership, product, and operations, driving architectural decisions through design docs, RFCs, and technical reviews, while mentoring and elevating the team through code reviews, design guidance, and knowledge sharing to raise the overall technical bar.
- • In this role, you will contribute to incident response and on-call rotations, using incidents as opportunities to drive meaningful reliability improvements, and advocate for long-horizon infrastructure investments that position Valon for sustained scale and customer growth over the next several years.
- • You will have the opportunity to deepen your expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and infrastructure-as-code at significant scale, while developing leadership and influence in a fast-paced, high-growth environment that values technical rigor, product-minded thinking, and clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, SRE, DevOps, or cloud systems, with a proven track record of operating at staff-level scope and influence.
- • Deep hands-on experience managing and operating cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure at significant scale, including designing for high availability, fault tolerance, and cost efficiency.
- • Strong expertise in containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar).
- • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives end-to-end: scoping, designing, building consensus, executing, and driving adoption across teams.
- • Deep understanding of distributed systems: networking, storage, databases, load balancing, observability, and performance at scale.
- • Solid engineering fundamentals—you write clean, well-tested code and can contribute meaningfully to services and tooling, even if infrastructure is your primary domain.
- • A product mindset and strong business intuition: you understand how infrastructure decisions create leverage (or bottlenecks) for the broader organization.
- • Excellent communication skills—you can explain complex technical trade-offs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- • Experience in fast-paced, high-growth environments. Familiarity with regulated industries (fintech, healthcare, etc.) is a bonus but not required.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary with a meaningful stake in the company via equity and access to a 401k plan.
- • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits to support health and well-being.
- • Generous time off including flexible paid time off, sick days, and 11 company holidays.
- • Baby bonding time: 12 weeks of fully paid leave for both birthing and non-birthing parents.
- • Commuter benefits via pre-tax deductions for public transportation, rideshare, and parking.
- • Learning and development opportunities, company-wide orientation, and regular review cycles with 360-degree feedback.
- • Quarterly budgets for team and company outings to foster connection and collaboration.
