- • As a Staff Data Engineer on the TCGplayer Data Systems team at eBay Inc., you will serve as a technical leader shaping the direction of the company’s evolving data estate, ensuring reliability, scalability, and efficiency of systems that power eBay’s global ecommerce platform.
- • Day to day, you will partner with technical leaders to define datastore infrastructure, design scalable data flows for microservices and event-driven systems, manage cross-application projects involving data governance and platform migrations, and optimize database design for performance and scalability.
- • You will work within the TCGplayer Technology organization, a passionate team of innovators focused on building communities and creating economic opportunity through technology, operating under eBay’s mission to reinvent the future of ecommerce for enthusiasts worldwide.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in data architecture and governance, influence technical decisions across engineering teams, mentor fellow engineers, and drive strategic planning by researching emerging data technologies to support long-term scalability and reliability of eBay’s data systems.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years of experience designing datastores, data architectures, and data flows for scalable, reliable, and efficient production systems
- • Deep expertise with relational/transactional databases in production (Postgres preferred), including schema design, indexing, query optimization, execution plans, partitioning, and performance tuning
- • Strong experience building and evolving datastores for microservices and event-driven applications (Kafka preferred)
- • Experience working across multiple data technologies, including relational databases (Postgres preferred), document databases (MongoDB preferred), caching technologies (Redis preferred), and analytics platforms (Snowflake preferred)
- • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

- • Competitive base pay range of $136,000 - $228,600, with potential for target bonus and restricted stock units
