• • As a Staff Developer Experience Engineer at Onebrief Inc., you will be at the forefront of a strategic investment in our engineering organization, tasked with building and leading a brand-new Developer Experience (DevEx) team. This is a unique opportunity to act as a technical leader with a massive multiplier effect, shaping how hundreds of engineers interact with our codebase and development processes. Your primary mission will be to architect and implement the "Golden Path" – a seamless, fast, and intuitive journey for developers from the moment they open their IDE to the moment their code is deployed to production.
• • You will own the critical aspects of the local development environment, ensuring it is optimized for speed, reliability, and ease of use. This includes standardizing the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) by creating and maintaining a comprehensive Golden Path. This path will encompass recommended plugins, configurations, and internal tooling designed to significantly reduce cognitive load for our engineering teams. By providing a consistent and optimized IDE experience, you will empower developers to focus on innovation rather than wrestling with their tools.
• • A key responsibility will be optimizing the local development experience. You will own the bootstrapping process for new services, ensuring that setting up a new project is straightforward and efficient. This involves optimizing local Docker workflows and resource allocation to guarantee that development environments are not only fast but also consistently reliable. Reducing the friction associated with local development is paramount to increasing productivity and developer satisfaction.
• • You will lead the architectural transition of our build systems, specifically migrating to Turborepo. This initiative aims to drastically reduce build and test latencies across the entire organization. By implementing a more efficient build system, you will reclaim valuable engineering time, allowing developers to iterate more quickly and deploy with greater confidence.
• • In the realm of AI and innovation, you will spearhead the consolidation of our existing AI tooling landscape. This involves auditing current tools, leading the selection process for a unified AI suite, and ensuring its consistent adoption and cost efficiency. Your work here will streamline AI-powered development workflows and ensure we are leveraging these powerful technologies effectively and economically.
• • You will also lead the strategic planning for language-specific upgrades, with a particular focus on TypeScript versioning and migration paths. This ensures our technology stack remains modern, secure, and performant, enabling us to build robust software at scale.
• • Governance and security are integral to your role. You will partner closely with the AppSec team to manage and approve library versions, striking a crucial balance between maintaining secure dependencies and avoiding slowdowns in feature delivery. Establishing clear engineering standards and governance models will be key, fostering autonomy while ensuring system-wide consistency and adherence to best practices.
• • Furthermore, you will design and refine our CI/CD and workflow orchestration. This includes designing the YAML workflows, pipelines, and automated checks that developers interact with daily. Your goal is to architect and implement self-service automation for deployments, minimizing manual intervention and establishing a repeatable, push-button experience for all engineering teams.
• • Integrating automated testing and quality gates into the pipeline is essential to ensure that "shift-left" testing becomes a reality, catching issues earlier in the development cycle. You will also leverage your experience in building or maintaining Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) to ensure they offer significant value-add to our Engineering teams, further enhancing their productivity and efficiency.
