Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Staff Electronics Engineer at Olix USA Inc., you will play a pivotal role in advancing the company’s mission to overcome the global AI infrastructure bottleneck by developing cutting-edge Optical Tensor Processing Units (OTPUs) that deliver unprecedented performance and energy efficiency beyond the limits of traditional silicon-based hardware.
  • • You will lead the design and technical direction of high-speed, mixed-signal, and power-dense electronics for OLIX’s optical compute platforms, working across ASIC, FPGA, optical, mechanical, firmware, and systems teams to deliver robust, energy-efficient accelerator hardware including PCIe-based platforms and rack-integrated systems operating at 25–56Gb/s+.
  • • Reporting to the Electronics Engineering Manager, you will contribute to both hands-on execution and technical strategy across board-level and subsystem design, acting as a technical authority in cross-functional discussions while mentoring junior engineers and establishing high-speed design best practices.
  • • Your day-to-day responsibilities will include leading the architecture and technical direction of complex high-layer-count PCBs and accelerator subsystems, owning signal and power integrity strategies across entire boards or product families, and driving energy-efficient hardware design with a focus on performance-per-watt optimization.
  • • You will independently own full product-level hardware development from concept through production, including designing and developing high-speed multilayer PCBs supporting 25–56Gb/s+ serial interfaces (e.g., PCIe Gen4/Gen5, SERDES-based links), implementing and validating high-current, low-voltage power delivery networks for ASICs and FPGAs, and performing signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis throughout schematic and layout phases.
  • • Additional responsibilities include defining PCB stack-ups, routing constraints, impedance control strategies, and return path methodologies; conducting lab-based board bring-up, debug, and high-speed compliance validation; supporting integration of analog front-ends, clocking architectures, and mixed-signal subsystems; collaborating cross-functionally to ensure system-level performance, manufacturability, and reliability; contributing to EVT/DVT/PVT builds and transition to production; and producing rigorous design documentation and validation reports.
  • • You will lead schematic and layout reviews across the team, mentor engineers, and establish high-speed design best practices, ensuring consistency and excellence in design execution.
  • • The electronics engineering team at Olix is a multidisciplinary, innovation-driven group focused on solving some of the most challenging problems in high-speed hardware design for next-generation optical computing, operating in a collaborative environment where technical excellence and ownership are highly valued.
  • • In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape the technical foundation of a transformative technology with the potential to redefine AI infrastructure, gain deep expertise in high-speed serial interfaces and power-dense system design, and see your contributions scale from concept to high-volume production while working alongside world-class engineers in optics, ASICs, and systems.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field.
  • • 10+ years of relevant experience in high-speed electronics design.
  • • Demonstrated ownership of complete high-complexity, high-layer-count PCBs (12+ layers) incorporating large FPGAs, server-class processors, networking, or high-lane-count PCIe architectures.
  • • Experience with PCIe or other high-speed serial interfaces operating at 25Gb/s and above.
  • • Solid understanding of signal integrity principles including impedance control, differential routing, jitter, and channel behaviour.
  • • Experience designing board-level power delivery networks.
  • • Proficiency with Altium Designer and/or Cadence toolchains.
  • • Experience performing board bring-up and lab validation using high-speed instrumentation.
  • • Strong analytical and troubleshooting capability.
  • • Effective communicator within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive Salary: ÂŁ211,000+, commensurate with experience, skills, and location.
  • • Equity & Ownership: Meaningful stock options, allowing you to own a piece of the mission.
  • • Proximity Bonus: ÂŁ24k annual Living-Local Bonus if residing within 20 minutes of the office to minimize commute and maximize quality of life.
  • • Premium Healthcare: Comprehensive BUPA medical and dental cover, including Medical History Disregarded (MHD), for complete peace of mind.
  • • Time Off: 25 days of annual leave, plus all UK bank holidays.
  • • Elite Hardware: M4 Macs provided as standard, with M4 Pro upgrades available for engineering teams; access to any tools needed to do your best work.
  • • Optimal Environment: High-spec noise-cancelling headphones and a fully ergonomic workstation designed for deep focus.
  • • Rapid Prototyping: Access to a high-performance 3D printing lab for work, experimentation, and personal creative projects.
  • • Life at the Office: Chef-prepared meals for late workdays and a tab at a favourite local coffee shop for caffeine on us.
  • • Relocation & Global Mobility: Full UK and international visa sponsorship, with seamless relocation support including funding and concierge service via a dedicated partner.
