Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the most complex and ambiguous technical and product problems across Nory’s product and platform, bringing structure, clarity, and momentum to initiatives with no clear path forward.
- • Shape technical and product direction by defining pragmatic approaches, sequencing work effectively, and influencing roadmaps through strong engineering judgment in partnership with product and engineering leaders.
- • Drive cross-team alignment on initiatives that span multiple squads, ensuring decisions account for system-wide impact rather than local optimizations.
- • Raise the effectiveness of other engineers through technical leadership, hands-on problem-solving, decision-making guidance, and clear communication during delivery.
- • Improve the overall system by identifying opportunities in architecture, reliability, developer experience, and product capability, then turning those opportunities into shipped outcomes.
- • Build and own production backend systems, APIs, data models, and distributed services that real customers depend on, with deep familiarity in data modeling trade-offs and constraints.
- • Ship full-stack features end-to-end, comfortably contributing across the stack while maintaining a backend-centric center of gravity in systems design and infrastructure.
- • Make architectural decisions with a long-term lens, balancing scalability, maintainability, and pragmatism to enable multiple teams to move faster without introducing technical debt.
- • Own outcomes, not just tickets — push back when problems are poorly defined, propose alternative approaches when initial plans are flawed, and take accountability for results using “I decided” language.
- • Navigate genuine ambiguity in startup or high-stakes environments, making decisions without perfect information and shipping real, functional MVPs under tight deadlines.
- • Engage directly with customers, incorporating user feedback into product decisions and being able to cite specific examples where customer input changed the direction of a feature.
- • Create leverage across the organization by mentoring engineers, modeling best practices, unblocking teams, and raising the bar for technical quality and communication.
- • Communicate complex technical trade-offs clearly to engineers, product managers, and stakeholders, enabling collaborative, informed decision-making beyond your immediate squad.
- • Work within Nory’s tech stack: Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, Node.js, AWS (Fargate, Aurora, SQS), Postgres, MongoDB, Docker — with the ability to ramp quickly even if not expert in every tool.
- • Operate as a product engineer, not just a software engineer — helping decide which problems are worth solving, shaping how they’re approached, and aligning technical execution with business outcomes.
- • Contribute to a remote-first culture with offices in London, Dublin, or Spain, and the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to three months per year.
- • Collaborate within cross-functional teams with clear ownership, focusing on high-leverage priorities that drive operational intelligence for restaurants — reducing waste, improving margins, and empowering frontline teams.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience building and owning production backend systems, APIs, data models, and distributed services that real customers depend on
- • Demonstrated ability to ship full-stack features end-to-end with a backend-centric center of gravity
- • Experience making long-term architectural decisions that enable scalability, maintainability, and cross-team velocity
- • Ownership of outcomes, not just execution — ability to shape problems, propose alternatives, and take accountability using “I decided” language
- • Experience navigating ambiguity in startup or high-stakes environments, shipping MVPs under tight deadlines with incomplete information
- • Direct engagement with customers to inform product decisions, with specific examples of how feedback changed outcomes
