Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Join the innovative Cluster to Cluster Synchronization (C2C) team at MongoDB, a company at the forefront of database technology for the AI era. This pivotal role as a Staff Engineer is instrumental in shaping the future of data migration and recovery for MongoDB clusters, ensuring seamless transitions for our customers to MongoDB's cloud service, MongoDB Atlas.
- • The C2C team is dedicated to building highly scalable, performant, and reliable migration services. These services are critical for enterprise clients looking to move their on-premise MongoDB deployments to the cloud, as well as for disaster recovery scenarios. You will be working on cutting-edge solutions like the Atlas Live Migration service and the standalone mongosync offering, both of which are essential for migrating complex enterprise workloads into Atlas with minimal downtime.
- • As a Staff Engineer, you will be a key architect, responsible for conceptualizing and developing innovative solutions to address the ever-evolving challenges in scalability, performance, and user experience within our migration services. Your contributions will directly impact the ease, speed, and reliability of data movement for thousands of customers worldwide.
- • Your responsibilities will extend to spearheading significant improvements across our migration services. This includes enhancing performance metrics, bolstering reliability, improving observability for better monitoring and debugging, and implementing robust data verification mechanisms to ensure data integrity throughout the migration process.
- • You will play a crucial role in defining the strategic direction and future vision for MongoDB's migration capabilities. This involves close collaboration with Product Management, Product Design, Analytics teams, and various other Engineering departments across MongoDB, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer needs.
- • Engage with stakeholders to thoroughly understand the business impact of proposed initiatives. You will translate these insights into a concrete team roadmap, and then partner closely with Engineering Leads to ensure successful execution and delivery of features.
- • You will be hands-on in designing, architecting, building, and delivering critical new features for our migration services, directly contributing to the product's evolution and customer satisfaction.
- • Beyond feature development, you will actively contribute to elevating our codebase, refining best practices, and strengthening our design principles, setting a high standard for engineering excellence within the team and the wider organization.
- • A significant aspect of this role involves technical leadership and mentorship. You will coach and guide engineers with diverse experience levels, empowering them to achieve successful project outcomes and foster their professional growth within MongoDB.
- • This role offers the unique opportunity to work on foundational technologies that are critical to MongoDB's success and its customers' digital transformation journeys. You will be at the heart of enabling businesses to modernize their data infrastructure and leverage the power of MongoDB Atlas.
- • The work you do will directly influence how easily and effectively businesses can adopt and utilize MongoDB's advanced database solutions, contributing to MongoDB's mission of empowering innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries with software.
- • You will be part of a dynamic team that values collaboration, technical depth, and a passion for solving complex problems in distributed systems and data management.
- • The success of this role will be measured by your ability to quickly understand the complex architecture of MongoDB migration tooling, contribute to bug fixes, drive the development of new features, diagnose and resolve customer-reported issues, and mentor junior engineers, ultimately leading the development of significant new capabilities.
- • This position is based in our Dublin office or can be performed remotely within Ireland, offering flexibility to our team members.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on building large-scale, distributed backend systems using a compiled language such as Java, C#, or Go.
- • Deep understanding of systems fundamentals, including advanced multi-threaded programming concepts and their practical application.
- • Familiarity with distributed systems principles, including consensus protocols, data replication, distributed transactions, and fault tolerance. Experience in database development is a significant advantage.
- • Proven experience with at least one major cloud provider's technology stack (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- • Demonstrated ability to lead the launch of new features and maintain them in production with a high degree of observability and operational excellence.
- • Experience in mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership for projects or teams.
- • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
- • High degree of curiosity and a proven ability to learn new technologies and concepts quickly within computer science and software engineering domains.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and stock options.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- • Generous paid time off and parental leave policies.
- • Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning.
- • Employee affinity groups and a supportive, inclusive work environment.
- • Fertility assistance programs.
- • Remote work flexibility within Ireland or office-based in Dublin.
