Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Staff Platform Engineer at AeroVect Inc., you will drive the technical direction and long-term architecture of the software foundation powering the autonomous ground vehicle fleet, serving as the most senior individual contributor on the platform team accountable for reliability, performance, scalability, and safety of Ubuntu-based OS images, real-time middleware, and device driver layers.
- • You will define the multi-year roadmap for platform evolution, own the architecture of Ubuntu/Yocto/Linux distributions for real-time safety-critical workloads, set ROS 2 IPC middleware strategy, lead user-space driver development for diverse sensors, and own end-to-end functional safety and security strategy including secure boot, OTA updates, CVE response, and alignment with ISO 26262/SOTIF.
- • You will collaborate with autonomy, perception, and controls teams to set cross-stack performance budgets, define observability contracts with SLIs/SLOs, set standards for CI/CD of OS images and driver packages, contribute to technical hiring and team growth, represent AeroVect with vendors, provide on-call escalation support, and drive systemic fixes from field learnings while reducing strategic technical debt stack-wide.
- • AeroVect is a Series A company transforming ground handling with autonomy, backed by top-tier venture capital in aviation and autonomous driving, serving major airlines and ground handling providers globally, where your work enables perception, autonomy, and controls teams to iterate rapidly and deliver safe, production-ready capabilities to customers worldwide.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years of experience developing Linux-based embedded or robotics platforms
- • Built a platform from 0→1 at a robotics/AV company that scaled through at least one order of magnitude in fleet size
- • Expert-level C++ (≥C++17) and strong Python, with deep instincts for language selection in real-time systems
- • Deep, first-hand experience shipping real-time, safety-critical systems in avionics, AV/ADAS, or comparable domains
- • Expert-level real-time performance tuning and profiling (perf, eBPF, ftrace/LTTng) with judgment on tool selection
- • Experience with Git, Docker/OCI containers, and CI/CD patterns for OS images and signed artifacts
- • Fluency with common vehicle buses and protocols (USB, Ethernet/TSN, CAN, PCIe, SPI, I2C)
- • Experience with functional safety workflows (ISO 26262, MISRA, SOTIF) or a credible path to owning that work
- • Experience with Nvidia Orin/Thor platforms and heterogeneous compute scheduling
🏖️ Benefits
- • Opportunity to define the technical vision and multi-year roadmap for a scaling autonomous vehicle platform
- • Influence vendor roadmaps in silicon, sensor, and middleware partnerships
- • Grow senior engineers into tech leads and raise engineering standards across the organization
- • Work on safety-critical systems with real-world impact in aviation and ground handling automation
- • Remote work flexibility with field deployment support at airports and industrial sites
- • Engage in open-source contributions and technical thought leadership in ROS 2, Linux kernel, and Yocto communities
