đź“‹ Description

  • • Join CesiumAstro, a pioneering force in developing cutting-edge communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We foster a dynamic, cross-functional work environment where learning, development, and engagement are paramount. If you thrive in a hands-on, interactive, and autonomous setting, CesiumAstro is your ideal destination. We are actively seeking passionate, collaborative, energetic, and forward-thinking individuals to become integral members of our innovative team.
  • • We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Power Electronics Engineer to contribute to our mission of creating state-of-the-art power solutions for the aerospace industry. This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about developing leading-edge power electronics for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems within a dynamic startup environment.
  • • In this critical role, you will be entrusted with the end-to-end responsibility for power electronics circuits and systems, guiding them through every phase of the development lifecycle. Your expertise will be applied to two primary product areas: firstly, the design and optimization of point-of-load converters specifically tailored for RF and digital modules, typically operating within the 1W to 50W range. These converters are crucial for ensuring efficient and stable power delivery to sensitive onboard electronics. Secondly, you will develop standalone DC-DC converter modules, designed for higher power applications ranging from 20W to 500W, which are essential for the overall power architecture of spacecraft and launch vehicles.
  • • Your design responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of power electronics disciplines. This includes the design and analysis of both isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converters, leveraging advanced topologies to meet stringent performance requirements. You will also be involved in the design of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) solar power converters, vital for maximizing energy harvesting from solar arrays in space environments. A significant part of your role will involve magnetics design and analysis, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of inductors and transformers. Furthermore, you will contribute to system-level power management and distribution design, architecting robust and efficient power delivery networks. Your expertise will extend to the design of sophisticated point-of-load regulators, as well as both switching and linear regulators, to meet diverse voltage and current demands. You will also be responsible for designing effective filters to mitigate noise and ensure signal integrity, and will conduct thorough stability analysis and measurements to guarantee the reliable operation of all power conversion stages.
  • • As a principal engineer on our hardware team, you will assume ownership of hardware designs from their initial conceptualization all the way through to mass production. This comprehensive responsibility includes contributing to product roadmaps, developing detailed block diagrams that outline system architecture, performing meticulous part selection based on performance, cost, and reliability criteria, and executing precise schematic designs. You will also play a key role in PCB layout and routing, collaborating with layout engineers to ensure optimal signal integrity and thermal management. Your responsibilities extend to performing rigorous analysis, including thermal, stress, and reliability analyses, to validate design robustness. You will work closely with contract manufacturers to oversee the manufacturing process, ensuring high-quality production. Furthermore, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive test plans, conducting thorough testing and validation, and supporting the qualification process for flight hardware. Post-launch, you will provide essential in-orbit support, troubleshooting any issues that may arise and ensuring the continued success of our missions.
  • • Beyond technical contributions, principal engineers at CesiumAstro serve as invaluable technical and professional mentors. You will be expected to share your deep knowledge and experience with junior engineers, fostering their growth and development within the team. Your guidance will be instrumental in shaping the technical direction and capabilities of our hardware group.
  • • The successful candidate will be a confident and articulate presenter, capable of presenting complex engineering design review materials to both our esteemed customers and our executive leadership team. Your ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and design decisions will be crucial in securing project approvals and building trust. Additionally, you will actively participate in proposal-writing efforts, contributing your technical expertise to shape winning proposals and secure new business opportunities. Therefore, excellent written and verbal communication skills are not just desired but are a fundamental requirement for this role.
  • • This role offers an initial remote work arrangement, providing flexibility and convenience. We envision a planned transition to in-person work once our new Florida office is fully established, allowing for enhanced collaboration and team synergy in a dedicated workspace.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a Master's degree or PhD being a strong plus.
  • • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in power electronics design, with a proven track record in designing DC-DC converters (isolated and non-isolated), point-of-load regulators, and power management systems.
  • • Demonstrated experience with magnetics design and analysis, including custom transformer and inductor design, and familiarity with magnetic simulation tools.
  • • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro), and experience with power integrity analysis and signal integrity analysis.
  • • Strong understanding of power semiconductor devices (MOSFETs, IGBTs, diodes), control loop stability analysis, and EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
  • • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, and experience in customer-facing roles or proposal writing.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive salary and equity package.
  • • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • • Generous paid time off (PTO) and holidays.
  • • Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning.
  • • Collaborative and innovative startup culture.
  • • Potential for significant impact on cutting-edge aerospace technology.
