Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own complex, cross-functional product surfaces that span clinical staffing workflows, including AI-driven recommendation engines, data-dense decision-support tools, and automated audit trails used by nurse managers, staffing offices, and hospital leaders.
- • Define and institutionalize design standards across the team by creating taste documents, pattern libraries, critique norms, and documentation that govern how design rationale is articulated and decisions are made.
- • Collaborate directly with customers through regular site visits to hospitals, observing real-world operational workflows of clinical and administrative staff to ground product decisions in authentic use cases.
- • Shape the growth and culture of the design team by contributing to hiring loops, onboarding patterns, critique rituals, and design operating principles that scale quality as the team expands.
- • Lead the development and evolution of the design system — defining components, tokens, contribution models, and documentation — ensuring seamless alignment between Figma designs and the Tailwind codebase to accelerate engineering shipping and raise product craft.
- • Drive design initiatives where AI is actively making recommendations or automating tasks, clearly designing how AI reasoning is displayed to clinical users under time pressure while maintaining trust and usability.
- • Influence how design collaborates with engineering and product teams by establishing protocols for resolving disagreements, integrating customer evidence into product decisions, and maintaining a high bar for shipped outcomes.
- • Translate operational workflows from healthcare environments into intuitive, low-friction digital interfaces that reduce cognitive load for staff managing staffing, capacity, and labor allocation under high-stakes conditions.
- • Maintain ownership of end-to-end design delivery from research and ideation through implementation, ensuring all shipped features are tied to measurable business metrics such as labor cost reduction, time savings, or patient capacity increases.
- • Mentor junior designers and set an example through high-fidelity, production-ready deliverables that prioritize functional integrity over aesthetic polish, ensuring design quality scales with company growth.
- • Champion evidence-based design decisions grounded in direct observation of clinical workflows, not hypothetical assumptions, ensuring products solve real problems faced by frontline healthcare workers.
- • Define and defend the principles that determine when AI should intervene, when it should suggest, and how its outputs must be interpretable, auditable, and actionable in fast-moving hospital environments.
- • Elevate the overall design maturity of the company by establishing consistent practices for documenting design tradeoffs, capturing user feedback loops, and iterating based on real usage data from live hospital deployments.
- • Partner with engineering to co-own the design-to-development handoff, ensuring that system-level patterns are correctly implemented and that fidelity is maintained across platforms and user roles.
- • Balance the need for innovation with operational reliability, ensuring that every design decision supports the integrity of hospital workflows and regulatory compliance in high-stakes clinical environments.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of product design experience, preferably on complex, workflow-heavy B2B SaaS products
- • Proven ownership of a design system or comparable infrastructure, including contribution models and scaling patterns
- • Direct experience observing and designing for real-world operational workflows, including willingness to travel to customer sites
- • Demonstrated experience designing for AI-driven interfaces where the system performs real decision-making tasks
- • Mature product instincts focused on workflow changes over UI improvements, with a track record of shipping features tied to business metrics
- • Strong, evidence-backed opinions with the ability to hold the line on design decisions while maintaining collaborative relationships
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary + equity
- • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- • 401(k) with match
- • Flexible PTO
- • Bi-annual company retreats
- • Free lunch and dinner in-office
- • Reimbursement for desk setup, gym, and commute
