- • As a Staff Product Designer at ButterflyMX, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of access control technology by designing intuitive, delightful, and accessible experiences across desktop, mobile, and emerging hardware platforms. Your work will directly impact millions of users who rely on ButterflyMX to open and manage doors and gates from their smartphones, contributing to the company’s mission of empowering people through seamless, secure, and innovative access solutions.
- • You will lead end-to-end design processes for major product features, collaborating closely with hardware, product, engineering, sales, and marketing teams to create cohesive hardware-software experiences that balance user needs with business goals. This includes designing interfaces for novel hardware platforms, defining new interaction paradigms, and ensuring designs are implemented accurately through close partnership with engineering and QA.
- • You will join a distributed, primarily remote team of intelligent, passionate, and collaborative individuals who embody ButterflyMX’s core values: delighting customers, taking ownership, fostering collaboration, speaking up, thinking big while doing small, and demonstrating tenacity. The design team works closely with the Head of Design and a Senior Designer to drive innovation and maintain high standards across all touchpoints.
- • You will actively contribute to and evolve the company’s design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across web, mobile, tablet, and touchscreen interfaces. By conducting and synthesizing user research—including interviews, usability testing, and data analysis—you will inform design decisions that enhance accessibility, inclusivity, and overall user satisfaction.
- • You will advocate for user-centered design principles, present concepts with clarity and confidence to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, and contribute to strategic product planning by providing design insights on roadmap priorities and emerging opportunities. This role offers the chance to define design standards, mentor through example, and leave a lasting impact on products used daily by residents, property managers, developers, and owners worldwide.
- • Through this role, you will deepen your expertise in hardware-software integration, grow your leadership in design systems and cross-functional collaboration, and refine your ability to balance user needs with business objectives in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment. You will also have the opportunity to leverage AI tools to enhance workflow efficiency and innovation, aligning with ButterflyMX’s ai-forward culture.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8-12 years of product design experience with a strong portfolio showcasing work across multiple platforms, including web, mobile, and emerging hardware interfaces.
- • Expert proficiency in design tools such as Figma and ProtoPie, with proven experience building, contributing to, and maintaining scalable design systems.
- • Demonstrated experience designing at the intersection of hardware and software, including understanding how physical constraints and capabilities influence user experience and creating interfaces that feel native to their physical environment.
- • Experience with accessibility standards and inclusive design practices, plus a background working at growth-stage companies or similar fast-paced environments preferred.
- • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences, and a collaborative mindset for managing multiple stakeholders in cross-functional teams.
- • Portfolio demonstrating the ability to balance user needs with business requirements, and experience utilizing AI tools in professional or personal contexts to enhance efficiency and optimize workflows.
