📋 Description

• Lead the design of a new Benefits product offering from 0→1, focusing on simplifying complex benefits experiences for small businesses and their employees.
• Design end-to-end service experiences across employer, employee, and internal operations workflows, integrating AI to reduce complexity while maintaining clarity and human control.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, CX, Operations, and Sales teams to shape AI-assisted decision moments, define system guardrails, and build feedback loops that improve AI quality over time.
• Contribute to Gusto’s mission of empowering small businesses by making benefits more accessible, affordable, and human-centered through innovative, AI-native design practices.
• Work within a collaborative, craft-focused Design team of over 80 members that values empathy, experimentation, and shipping impactful experiences without preciousness.
• Help scale design quality through reusable patterns, mentorship, and cross-functional influence while advancing AI fluency and responsible automation.
• Shape information models and UX to enable seamless human-AI collaboration, ensuring clean inputs, clear outputs, and structured handoffs that reduce errors.
• Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) to prototype and deliver production-quality UI, accelerating delivery and shaping reusable design-engineering patterns.

🎯 Requirements

• Partner cross-functionally to define human-in-the-loop workflows and establish principles for fairness, privacy, and trust in AI-driven experiences.
• Design with AI as a core material—prototyping, refining prompts, and integrating adaptive AI behaviors that respond responsibly to user context.
• Redesign service blueprints where AI automates routine tasks, predicts needs, and escalates complex cases to humans with transparency and context.
• Define area strategy using measurable bets and experimentation, partnering with Analytics and AI teams to track and evaluate impact.
• Scale quality through reusable patterns, thoughtful critique, and mentorship, balancing exploration with delivery.
• Influence cross-functional strategy, resolve complex trade-offs, and guide design through ambiguity while coaching teams and raising the bar for craft and systems thinking.
