📋 Description

• As a Staff Product Designer at Kong Inc., you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience of Kong Konnect, the company’s unified API and AI platform that powers the agentic era for Fortune 500 enterprises and startups alike. Your work will directly impact how developers and technical teams interact with complex infrastructure, making it more intuitive, secure, and valuable—thereby accelerating innovation across industries.
• You will lead end-to-end design initiatives for Kong’s Event Gateway and related products, translating deep customer insights into elegant, scalable solutions that balance technical rigor with exceptional usability. This role is critical to Kong’s mission of simplifying API and AI management at scale, where your designs will influence adoption, retention, and customer success in highly technical environments.
• Day to day, you will: Lead complex design projects from initial concept through research, ideation, prototyping, and final UI delivery, ensuring alignment with Kong’s design system and quality standards; Conduct and synthesize user research—including interviews, usability testing, and behavioral analysis—to uncover developer workflows and pain points; Create wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes using tools like Figma, while advocating for accessibility and consistency across platforms; Collaborate daily with product managers, engineers, and data analysts to define success metrics, interpret instrumentation data, and iterate based on experimentation results; Champion customer needs by presenting findings and design rationales to cross-functional stakeholders, influencing roadmap priorities through compelling storytelling; Mentor junior designers by sharing best practices in research, interaction design, and design systems, while fostering a culture of feedback and continuous improvement; Proactively identify opportunities to enhance product cohesion across Kong’s ecosystem, advocating for systemic improvements that elevate the overall user experience beyond individual features.
• Kong’s design team is a small, highly collaborative unit embedded within a fast-growing, mission-driven organization that values technical excellence and customer empathy. You’ll work alongside passionate engineers and product leaders who are deeply invested in solving hard problems in API management, AI governance, and developer experience—creating an environment where design is not just valued but essential to product success.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in designing for technical audiences, mastering the art of making complex systems feel intuitive. You’ll have the opportunity to influence Kong’s design system at a strategic level, contribute to industry-leading B2B SaaS experiences, and grow into a design leader who shapes both product and team practices—leaving a lasting impact on how the world connects through APIs and AI.

🎯 Requirements

• 6+ years of professional product design experience, preferably in B2B SaaS, developer tools, or technical platforms
• Proven ability to lead full-cycle design processes, from user research and problem definition to high-fidelity UI delivery and post-launch evaluation
• Strong portfolio demonstrating data-informed decision-making, experience with design systems, and success in improving business metrics through design
• Comfort working with technical concepts such as APIs, workflows, and system constraints, and ability to translate them into clear, user-centered designs
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with experience presenting design rationale to diverse audiences including engineers, product managers, and executives
• Experience mentoring or leveling up junior designers through feedback, coaching, and example
