Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Staff Software Engineer at Nextpatient, you will play a pivotal role in transforming the patient experience by building modern, intuitive software that integrates with legacy medical systems to deliver online scheduling, paperless check-in, automated reminders, waitlist management, and payment processing—directly improving efficiency for healthcare providers and satisfaction for patients.
- • You will own end-to-end development of meaningful product features, working as a high-impact individual contributor in a small, self-funded team of 40 engineers where your contributions have immediate visibility and influence, enabling you to shape both technical direction and product outcomes without the layers of bureaucracy found in larger organizations.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities include designing, implementing, and testing full-stack features using Python and Postgres on Linux, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and co-founders to translate user needs into robust, scalable solutions while maintaining high standards of code quality and system reliability.
- • You will regularly engage with account managers and sales teams to validate that new features meet real-world clinical and operational needs, and participate in occasional client calls to gather firsthand feedback from medical office staff, ensuring your work solves actual pain points in practice management.
- • You will contribute to the growing integration of AI capabilities within the platform, helping to identify and implement intelligent features—such as predictive scheduling or automated communication workflows—that enhance both patient engagement and practice efficiency.
- • You will mentor and elevate the technical bar through code reviews, architectural discussions, and knowledge sharing, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning within a tight-knit engineering team that values autonomy, initiative, and technical craftsmanship.
- • You will operate in a highly autonomous, startup-friendly environment where ambiguity is embraced and rapid iteration is the norm, allowing you to make impactful decisions quickly and see the direct results of your work in production without lengthy approval cycles.
- • You will benefit from a culture that prioritizes sustainable work practices, including encouraged extended vacations and company-wide trips, ensuring long-term engagement and personal well-being while contributing to a mission-driven product used by thousands of medical offices nationwide.
- • You will grow your expertise in healthcare technology domains—gaining deep insight into practice management workflows, patient engagement strategies, and regulatory considerations—without requiring prior healthcare experience, as the company provides comprehensive onboarding and contextual training.
- • You will have the opportunity to influence technical strategy and system architecture as a senior individual contributor, positioning yourself as a trusted advisor on scalability, performance, and maintainability while continuing to write and ship code that powers core product functionality.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10 or more years of professional software engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering significant, high-impact contributions to complex products
- • Strong full-stack development expertise, particularly in Python backend development and PostgreSQL, with solid understanding of Linux-based systems and modern web application architectures
- • Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced startup environments with comfort navigating changing priorities, minimal process, and high ownership expectations
🏖️ Benefits
- • Freedom to work remotely from any location with flexible scheduling and trust-based autonomy
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage for employees and dependents
- • 401(k) plan with company match to support long-term financial wellness
- • Generous paid time off policy, including 11 federally recognized holidays and encouragement to take a meaningful 2-week annual vacation
- • Fully paid parental leave available after 12 months of tenure
- • Annual company-wide trip (past destinations: Park City, Miami, Austin) and mid-year team-wide trips with +1s to foster connection and team bonding
- • Equity participation as part of the compensation package, aligning employee success with company growth
