• • As a Staff Software Engineer at Confluent Inc., you will be at the forefront of building and evolving the internal applications that form the backbone of our business operations. This is a pivotal role where you will leverage your deep technical expertise to architect, design, and implement high-impact internal web applications that are critical to Confluent's revenue, forecasting, and operational efficiency. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of our internal technology landscape, ensuring it scales effectively with our rapid growth.
• • Your primary focus will be on developing strategic internal applications that streamline and enhance crucial business workflows. This includes applications supporting the entire deal lifecycle, sophisticated quoting and pricing mechanisms, accurate forecasting tools, and robust planning utilities. These systems are utilized daily by our Sales, Finance, and Customer-facing teams, directly impacting our ability to make data-driven decisions, plan resources proactively, optimize usage, and manage expenditures with confidence.

This involves identifying and championing high-leverage technical investments that significantly improve the reliability, performance, developer velocity, and overall user experience of our internal applications and services.
• • A key aspect of your role will involve designing and evolving robust microservices, well-defined APIs, and efficient data models. These components will need to seamlessly integrate with critical external systems such as Salesforce, our billing platforms, and various data and analytics infrastructure, ensuring strong contracts and clear architectural boundaries are maintained.
• • You will collaborate closely with Product Managers and key business stakeholders, translating often ambiguous business requirements into clear, actionable technical strategies, comprehensive roadmaps, and achievable deliverables spanning multiple quarters. Your ability to bridge the gap between business needs and technical execution will be paramount.
• • As a Staff Software Engineer, you will provide essential technical leadership and mentorship to both senior and mid-level engineers within the team. Your guidance will be crucial in elevating the standards of design quality, code craftsmanship, observability, and operational excellence across the team's output.
• • You will be a champion for engineering best practices, including comprehensive testing strategies, performance engineering, proactive incident readiness, and secure coding principles. Your responsibility will be to ensure these practices are consistently embedded and applied within your areas of ownership.
• • Collaboration extends beyond your immediate team. You will work with peer engineering teams to define cohesive, end-to-end solutions and shared platforms, fostering an environment of collaboration and avoiding siloed, point-to-point integrations.
• • You will actively contribute to the refinement of the technical strategy, architectural principles, and career development standards for the Commit Estimator and the broader Application & AI Engineering domains, helping to shape the technical direction of Confluent.
• • A significant part of your contribution will involve modernizing our existing applications and platform. This modernization effort will focus on enhancing scalability, improving availability, accelerating the speed of software delivery, and enabling new AI capabilities for our end-users, ensuring Confluent remains at the cutting edge of data streaming technology.
