You will be a key architect and leader, responsible for defining, evolving, and scaling the sophisticated systems that power next-generation patient engagement, including the development of cutting-edge AI agents software, AI-powered functionalities, and high-throughput distributed systems like our MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers.
- • As a Staff Software Engineer, you will report directly to the Senior Engineering Manager and will be entrusted with driving technical excellence across multiple engineering teams. Your primary focus will be on leading the execution of high-risk, high-impact initiatives that are critical to Artera's sustained growth and long-term success. This involves not only architecting robust, large-scale systems but also actively mentoring fellow engineers, ensuring our platform remains exceptionally resilient, performant, and perfectly positioned to embrace the next wave of AI-driven patient engagement solutions. Your contributions will directly influence how millions of patients interact with their healthcare providers, making healthcare more accessible and efficient.
- • **Technical Leadership:**
- • Serve as a recognized domain expert in backend architecture, distributed systems, and high-throughput I/O operations. Your deep understanding will guide the team through complex technical challenges and strategic decisions.
- • Drive the adoption of company-wide architectural patterns, contribute significantly to our overall platform strategy, and establish and uphold rigorous engineering standards that ensure quality and scalability.
- • Lead the execution of complex, open-ended projects that often span multiple quarters, requiring foresight, strategic planning, and meticulous execution.
- • Own the process of achieving cross-team architectural buy-in, effectively guiding diverse teams through critical refactoring and modernization efforts to maintain a cutting-edge technology stack.

- • Systematically analyze and reason through system-wide implications, meticulously considering edge cases, and making informed decisions about performance trade-offs to optimize efficiency and reliability.
- • Collaborate effectively with internal teams to ensure the successful delivery of our commercial platform, including specialized Government or Agentic Solutions and our Application Platform.
- • Proactively identify and systematically eliminate sources of instability, latency, and operational risk within our systems, ensuring a seamless and dependable user experience.
- • Possess the ability and willingness to build new systems from scratch when necessary, particularly for demanding distributed I/O-intensive applications, demonstrating agility and a problem-solving mindset.
- • **Mentorship and Culture:**
- • Embody and promote engineering maturity through thoughtful and constructive code reviews, comprehensive documentation, and clear, effective technical communication.
- • Mentor and uplift engineers across various teams, enhancing their understanding of advanced architecture, debugging techniques, system reliability, and essential AI-era best practices.
- • Foster a blameless culture that actively encourages learning from mistakes, embraces experimentation, and drives continuous improvement in our development processes and outcomes.
- • Champion transparency, clear and consistent communication, and robust cross-functional collaboration, ensuring alignment and shared understanding across the organization.
- • **Collaboration:**
- • Partner closely with Product Management, Design, DevOps, Data Science, and other engineering teams to translate complex technical requirements and innovative ideas into practical, user-centered solutions that meet market needs.
- • Strong communication skills and the ability to interpret and convey technical information effectively are paramount for success in this role.
- • Provide essential architectural guidance on story-level decisions within your designated domain, ensuring technical integrity and alignment with broader strategic goals.
