• In this role, you will spearhead system design and technical planning for a wide array of projects, with a particular emphasis on large-scale, intricate, and cross-functional initiatives. You will be instrumental in shaping architectural decisions for our most critical systems, ensuring that all solutions are designed for scalability, maintainability, and alignment with Pearl Health's long-term technical vision. A key responsibility will be defining and implementing robust engineering standards, architectural patterns, and best practices that systematically enhance scalability, reliability, and developer productivity across the entire engineering organization. You will also play a crucial role in navigating strategic trade-offs between managing technical debt, accelerating feature delivery, and ensuring system reliability, articulating the rationale and implications of these decisions with clarity.
• Your full-stack expertise will be leveraged to design and construct high-performance, distributed systems. This includes developing sophisticated data pipelines, robust APIs, and scalable microservices capable of processing vast amounts of healthcare data. You will architect intuitive, responsive web applications and essential internal tools that empower our clinical and operations teams to deliver unparalleled patient care. Ensuring comprehensive observability, effective monitoring, and operational excellence across our distributed services, cloud infrastructure, and frontend applications will be paramount. You will apply your deep knowledge of backend service design, including RESTful and event-driven architectures, and modern frontend frameworks to deliver complete, production-ready solutions. Furthermore, you will champion the adoption of security best practices, data consistency patterns, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, SOC2) throughout the entire application stack.
• Strategic collaboration is a cornerstone of this role. You will partner closely with leadership in product, operations, and design to ensure that engineering decisions are tightly aligned with company priorities and ultimately contribute to improved healthcare outcomes. You will serve as a trusted technical advisor to multiple engineering teams, offering guidance on system design, technology selection, and implementation strategies. Your ability to influence and drive technical discussions across the organization will be vital in helping teams overcome complex technical challenges and make well-informed decisions. You will translate intricate business requirements into actionable technical strategies, ensuring that all engineering efforts directly support Pearl Health's mission and ambitious growth objectives. You will also represent the engineering perspective in critical strategic planning, roadmap prioritization, and resource allocation discussions.
• Mentorship and cultural leadership are integral to this position. You will actively mentor engineers at various levels (Software Engineer I, II, and III), fostering their technical growth and leadership development. You will cultivate a strong engineering culture characterized by continuous learning, a commitment to technical excellence, and adherence to Pearl Health's core Leadership Principles. Conducting thorough design and code reviews will be essential for elevating technical quality and promoting knowledge sharing across teams. Your involvement in hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts will be crucial in building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
• You will own and drive multi-quarter technical projects with a high degree of autonomy and accountability, ensuring their successful delivery within business timelines. Identifying and resolving systemic issues, technical bottlenecks, and cross-team dependencies that hinder delivery velocity or compromise system reliability will be a key focus. You will adeptly balance the need for speed with the imperative of quality, making pragmatic decisions that enable rapid iteration while upholding the highest standards of engineering excellence. Finally, you will be responsible for measuring and communicating the business impact of technical work, clearly connecting engineering outcomes to tangible customer value and overarching organizational goals.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in backend or full-stack software development, with a proven track record in service-oriented architectures and large data systems.
• Demonstrated architectural experience designing and implementing scalable, distributed systems, including microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Strong leadership track record in driving technical direction for significant, cross-functional projects.
• Cloud platform proficiency (preferably AWS), including hands-on experience with infrastructure design, deployment pipelines, and cost optimization.
• Deep expertise designing and optimizing data-intensive applications involving large-scale data movement, transformation, and presentation.
• Proven production operations experience in distributed systems, encompassing observability, monitoring, incident response, and operational excellence.
• Experience in aligning technical decisions with business objectives and clearly communicating complex trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience building systems in healthcare technology, fintech, or other highly regulated industries with complex compliance requirements (Nice-to-have).
• Expertise in regulatory compliance with frameworks like HIPAA, SOC2, or similar regulated environments (Nice-to-have).
