đź“‹ Description
- • HackerOne is at the forefront of a transformative shift in the cybersecurity industry, pioneering a new era of AI-powered offensive security. As a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Applied AI, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our autonomous HAI platform. This is a unique opportunity to drive the integration of cutting-edge AI and sophisticated agentic frameworks into HackerOne’s core products, directly impacting how enterprises proactively defend against evolving cyber threats.
- • Your primary mission will be to architect and build intelligent security agents. These agents will be designed to reason, act, and learn autonomously, empowering security teams to identify, validate, and remediate vulnerabilities with unprecedented speed and efficiency. This high-impact technical role, reporting directly to the VP of AI Engineering, places you at the helm of designing the systems and frameworks that will power the next generation of AI-driven vulnerability discovery and continuous threat exposure management.
- • You will be instrumental in architecting and enhancing our flagship autonomous security agent, codenamed “Hai.” This involves building intelligent systems capable of sophisticated natural-language reasoning, advanced vulnerability detection, and the generation of actionable, context-aware recommendations. Your work will be guided by an AI-First mindset, ensuring that AI capabilities are not just integrated but are the foundational element of our solutions.
- • A significant part of your contribution will involve building robust components and services that seamlessly integrate agentic AI design patterns into the HackerOne platform. This includes developing sophisticated orchestration layers, advanced memory systems for agents, implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques, managing long-horizon tasks, and leveraging state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs). The overarching goal is to apply an AI-First approach to dramatically improve vulnerability detection accuracy and enhance security automation across the board.
- • Collaboration is key to success. You will partner closely with Product Management, Security Research, and other Engineering teams to strategically introduce and embed AI capabilities throughout the broader HackerOne ecosystem. In a rapidly evolving company landscape, you will be expected to bring clarity and stability to shifting requirements, demonstrating strong Change Agility and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- • You will design and implement advanced AI red-teaming agents and comprehensive frameworks. These tools will be crucial for proactively identifying weaknesses in LLMs, generative AI systems, and other applied AI deployments. By employing First Principles Problem Solving, you will break down complex challenges into manageable components and build durable, foundational solutions that stand the test of time.
- • Establishing meaningful metrics, robust observability, effective evaluation frameworks, and continuous feedback loops will be critical for iterating and improving model performance, ensuring AI safety, and maximizing user impact. Your decisions will be grounded in Data-Driven Decision Making, ensuring that our AI development is both effective and responsible.
- • Staying abreast of the latest advancements in AI safety research, cutting-edge adversarial-testing techniques, and emerging agentic-system patterns is paramount. You will be responsible for integrating these learnings into HackerOne’s responsible AI strategy, demonstrating adaptability and a growth-oriented Change Agility mindset.
- • You will also build and maintain secure, scalable, and interoperable APIs and integrations. These will facilitate seamless interaction between our AI models, various security tools, and the broader HackerOne platform, ensuring a cohesive and powerful user experience.
- • This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys tackling complex AI challenges, and is passionate about building the future of cybersecurity. You will have the autonomy to innovate and the support to make a significant impact on a product used by some of the world's leading organizations.
- • HackerOne’s commitment to fostering a strong and inclusive culture is reflected in our values: Customer Obsessed, Default to Disclosure, and Win Together. We encourage transparency, integrity, empowerment, inclusion, respect, and accountability in all our endeavors. As a Staff AI Engineer, you will embody these principles while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in AI-driven security.
- • The role is based in Seattle, WA or Austin, TX, with a flexible work approach that balances in-office collaboration with remote work benefits. You will be expected to come into the office once per week, typically on Thursdays, to foster team connection and in-person collaboration.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of experience as a software engineer, with deep expertise in building and maintaining production-grade AI platforms and infrastructure.
- • Proven expertise in Large Language Models (LLMs), generative AI, and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Transformers) in production environments.
- • Strong hands-on experience in AI platform engineering, including model deployment, MLOps pipelines, model serving infrastructure, and shared AI services architecture.
- • Solid understanding of AI safety and alignment principles, including responsible AI development, bias mitigation, and ethical AI practices.
- • Familiarity with agentic orchestration frameworks like ReAct, AutoGen, or Semantic Kernel is highly desirable.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Comprehensive health insurance (medical, vision, dental), life, and disability insurance.
- • Equity stock options, offering ownership and participation in the company's success.
- • Robust retirement plans to support long-term financial well-being.
