📋 Description
- • As the Staff Software Engineer for Custom Projects at H2Analytics, you will serve as the technical leader of a newly formed incubation team responsible for rapidly building and prototyping next-generation simulation and data analysis tools for defence and intelligence clients. This role is pivotal in transforming innovative concepts into market-ready products that will be integrated into the EASE (Exercise Architect Suite) platform, directly impacting how military, law enforcement, and emergency response organizations train for high-stakes scenarios.
- • You will spend the majority of your time hands-on — writing code, designing systems, prototyping features, and deploying applications — while also guiding the technical direction of the team, making key architectural decisions, and owning the end-to-end delivery of full-stack applications from concept to production. Your work will focus on building AI-driven simulation tools using generative AI for dynamic, high-fidelity training data and developing advanced data analysis tools for intelligence operatives, all designed for deployment in both cloud and secure, air-gapped on-premises environments.
- • The Custom Projects team operates as a fast-moving, product-focused unit within H2Analytics, blending the agility of a startup with the mission-driven purpose of a defence technology provider. Though 100% remote, the team aligns around Eastern Time core hours and values lightweight Scrum practices, frequent shipping, collaboration, and results over process. You will join a culture that prizes engineering excellence, continuous learning, and the ability to thrive in ambiguous, high-impact environments.
- • In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape not only the technology stack and product direction but also the engineering culture of a growing team. You will mentor and coach senior engineers, lead by example in code quality and security practices, and help define both the technical and product roadmaps as these prototypes evolve into scalable offerings. You’ll gain deep domain expertise in defence and intelligence training systems while advancing your skills in AI agent architectures, event-driven systems, and secure infrastructure design.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of experience building complex web applications and backend services as a full-stack engineer, with at least 6 years at a Senior or Staff level
- • Expertise in TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue) for building polished, interactive user interfaces
- • Strong practical experience with LLM integration (RAG, prompt engineering, agent workflows) and enthusiasm for autonomous agent systems
- • Proven ability to architect, deploy, and operate cloud and on-premises infrastructure (AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes) in secure, including air-gapped, environments
- • Eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance in Canada is mandatory due to the nature of work with defence and intelligence clients
