📋 Description

  • Join Foxglove Technologies, Inc. as a Staff Software Engineer, Robotics Fleet, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of robotics by building the critical data infrastructure that powers robots operating in the real world. As robotics transitions from research laboratories into widespread production environments across diverse sectors like factories, warehouses, autonomous vehicles, and field deployments, the ability to understand and act upon robot behavior is paramount. When robots encounter failures, exhibit unexpected actions, or require optimization, engineers depend on robust data analysis to comprehend precisely what transpired. Foxglove is at the forefront of this revolution, providing the essential observability, visualization, and data infrastructure that makes this deep understanding possible. Our cutting-edge tools are indispensable for robotics and autonomous systems teams, enabling them to efficiently ingest, store, query, replay, and analyze massive volumes of multimodal sensor data originating from live systems and extensive production fleets.
  • In this role, you will be instrumental in developing the on-device software that empowers developers with crucial observability and connectivity features. You will collaborate closely with a talented team of engineers to architect and implement our Software Development Kits (SDKs), intuitive user interfaces, resilient on-device software solutions, and sophisticated connectivity and data ingestion systems. Your contributions will directly impact the reliability and performance of robotic systems deployed globally.
  • Key responsibilities will encompass integrating our platform with a diverse array of robotics frameworks and multi-language SDKs, ensuring seamless compatibility and interoperability. You will be tasked with building highly reliable software that operates with minimal resource utilization, designed to function effectively on a wide spectrum of devices, many of which may operate in constrained or remote environments. A significant part of your work will involve providing essential connectivity, observability, and telemetry data from devices deployed in challenging field conditions. Furthermore, you will contribute to the development of distributed systems responsible for collecting, processing, and transforming vast quantities of observability data. Our technical stack is modern and robust, featuring Rust for performance-critical components, Node.js with TypeScript for backend services, PostgreSQL for data storage, and managed Kubernetes environments within Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will also be involved in customer deployments that leverage multi-cloud architectures, spanning Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, requiring a deep understanding of these platforms.
  • This is an exceptional opportunity to make a significant impact at a fast-growing, high-leverage moment for Foxglove. You will contribute to a mission-driven company dedicated to accelerating the development of the next generation of robotics and embodied AI. You will work alongside a team of world-class engineers, designers, and researchers who are deeply passionate about open-source technologies and developer tools. The role offers a high degree of autonomy and visibility, allowing you to drive initiatives from conception to completion. Your technical decisions will directly influence the customer experience and the overall success of our platform. We are looking for an engineer who is not only technically proficient but also possesses a strong product sense and a genuine desire to build tools that empower fellow engineers. If you are excited by the prospect of solving complex challenges in the rapidly evolving field of robotics and contributing to a product that is shaping the industry, we encourage you to apply.

🎯 Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in writing high-performance, production-grade software.
  • Significant professional experience building on-device software, preferably in C++ or Rust.
  • Familiarity with robotics frameworks such as ROS (Robot Operating System) or other similar stacks.
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, and telemetry tooling.
  • A strong passion for building technical tools with engineers as the primary users.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, small-team startup environment, demonstrating adaptability and a proactive approach.
  • A customer-centric mindset, consistently considering the impact of technical decisions on end-users.
  • Bonus: Experience in robotics or autonomous vehicle (AV) development.
  • Bonus: Proficiency in infrastructure management, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, cloud provider platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and security best practices.

🏖️ Benefits

  • $300 monthly budget for commuter benefits or building your personal remote workspace.
  • Competitive equity grant in a Series B funded company, offering significant growth potential.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage, with 100% employer contribution for employees and 75% for dependents.
  • Term Life insurance coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with up to 4% employer matching.
  • Generous paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation, plus company holidays and a winter break.
  • All-expenses-paid company off-sites held 1-2 times per year for team building and strategic planning.
