- • Lead and mentor a small team of 3–5 senior Data Engineers, providing clear goal-setting, feedback, and career growth opportunities through structured development cycles.
- • Own the end-to-end strategy and evolution of AMBOSS’s data platform, including batch and real-time pipelines, data modeling layers, governance frameworks, and observability systems to enable self-service for Analysts, Scientists, and Engineering teams.
- • Serve as the Single Source of Truth for company-wide metrics and data language, ensuring alignment across Analytics, Product, Commercial, Finance, Operations, and Medical departments.
- • Design and deliver integrations between the data platform and core business systems, including ERP, Shop, and other enterprise applications, owning these layers end-to-end.
- • Build and maintain internal services and tools that solve specific business problems, such as the master data management service for global medical institutions powering B2B commercial and product experiences.
- • Partner directly with Commercial, Finance, Product, Operations, and Medical stakeholders to translate ambiguous business needs into clear technical scope and actionable data products.
- • Stay hands-on in high-leverage work: write SQL, debug integrations, scope internal tools, and contribute code alongside your team rather than solely reviewing PRs or managing up.
- • Establish and elevate engineering standards for code quality, testing, reliability, incident response, and CI/CD using GitHub Actions, Terraform, or similar IaC tools.
- • Evaluate, pilot, and retire data technologies based on evidence and business impact, maintaining tool-agnosticism and avoiding hype-driven adoption.
- • Implement and scale agentic coding and AI-assisted workflows (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate engineering productivity while maintaining system integrity and security.
- • Design platforms for scalability, security, and future growth—prioritizing reusable components over one-off pipelines to support long-term operational efficiency.
- • Coordinate across multiple functions daily, shifting fluidly between deep technical sessions and executive-level business discussions.
- • Create structure in ambiguous environments, make pragmatic decisions under uncertainty, and prioritize work based on business impact rather than theoretical perfection.
- • Translate complex technical trade-offs into clear, concise narratives that executives and non-technical stakeholders can understand and act upon.
- • Coach engineers and analysts by setting expectations, providing constructive feedback, and unblocking team members to maximize individual and team output.
- • Contribute to building a culture of engineering excellence rooted in ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the data organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years in data engineering or data platform roles, including 2+ years leading projects or people
- • Deep SQL and strong Python skills with production experience in Airflow, dbt, or comparable frameworks
- • Hands-on expertise with cloud warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake) and at least one major cloud provider (AWS or GCP)
- • Proven experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (GitHub Actions, Terraform, or similar)
- • Experience integrating with or building against business systems such as ERP, Shop, or financial platforms
- • Hands-on fluency with agentic coding AI tools like Claude Code and a track record of using AI to accelerate engineering work
