📋 Description

• • Lead a high-impact product-focused pod at ZayZoon, the Calgary fintech that is already helping 74 % of users reduce financial stress and was named to the 2024 Deloitte Technology Fast 500. Your team will own a critical persona or revenue segment—such as employee experience, employer onboarding, or high-LTV accounts—giving you end-to-end ownership of features that move the needle on our mission to save 10 million workers 10 billion dollars.
• • Act as both servant-leader and technical anchor. You will run every agile ceremony—daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, backlog refinement—while simultaneously serving as the accountable senior code reviewer who upholds SOLID principles, domain-driven design, and our secure-scalable architecture standards. You are the bridge between product vision and engineering execution.
• • Coach, mentor, and unblock a cross-functional squad of Ruby on Rails developers. Conduct bi-weekly 1:1s, review weekly self-updates, and proactively surface performance or interpersonal issues before they become blockers. You will manage vacation calendars to ensure continuous delivery, and you will escalate only the most serious concerns to the Dev Manager and VP of Engineering.
• • Translate high-level product requirements into actionable technical stories in collaboration with your Product Manager. You will break epics into deliverable slices, size them with the team, and keep cycle time, throughput, and defect escape rate visible in Metabase dashboards that you design and maintain.
• • Architect net-new features with an eye toward extensibility, security, and performance. Whether we are experimenting with a rapid MVP or hardening a core flow for millions of users, you decide when to optimize for speed and when to pay down technical debt—always bringing data that proves the ROI of each choice.
• • Champion quality across the full stack. Every developer owns their feature end-to-end, so you will review pull requests that span Rails APIs, React front ends, background jobs, and third-party integrations. You will coordinate closely with QA to define test plans and ensure automated and exploratory coverage before anything reaches production.
• • Foster a culture of continuous learning. Share best practices in testing, observability, and clean code during weekly guild sessions. Curate a library of giphys that celebrate great merges and lighten the mood when pipelines turn red.
• • Collaborate horizontally with other Team Leads to align on shared services, API contracts, and release sequencing. You will participate in quarterly OKR planning and help set team-level KPIs that ladder up to company objectives.
• • Stay hands-on. Expect to spend roughly 40 % of your time coding—whether spiking a new micro-service, refactoring a hot path, or pairing with a junior dev on their first complex feature. Your mastery of Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL performance tuning, and modern DevOps tooling keeps your credibility sky-high.
• • Represent ZayZoon externally when needed—speaking at meetups, writing blog posts, or mentoring interns—because we believe leadership extends beyond the codebase and into the broader tech community.
