  • • Own the end-to-end architecture of Vali Health’s autonomous after-hours operations platform, building the “nervous system” that keeps home-care agencies running 24/7. You’ll design voice-first AI agents that field emergency schedule changes, caregiver call-offs, and urgent client needs, then decide—in real time—whether to resolve the issue or escalate to a human supervisor.
  • • Ship production-grade conversational AI that operators trust with life-or-death decisions. This means crafting LLM workflows with bullet-proof safety guardrails, structured data capture, and transparent audit trails so every automated action can be traced, reviewed, and improved.
  • • Build the full-stack glue that turns raw voice interactions into reliable workflows: speech-to-text, intent classification, tool-calling APIs, backend orchestration, and operator dashboards. You’ll choose the tech stack, set coding standards, and lay the groundwork for a platform that scales from dozens of calls to millions without re-architecture.
  • • Create continuous-learning pipelines that get smarter with every call. You’ll implement automated testing suites, evaluation frameworks, and human-in-the-loop review tools that surface edge cases, measure accuracy, and feed improvements back into the models within hours—not weeks.
  • • Work elbow-to-elbow with founders, operations teams, and end-users in San Mateo at least three days a week. You’ll sit in on real after-hours calls, shadow nurses and schedulers, and translate messy real-world scenarios into deterministic, safety-first automation rules.
  • • Define the product roadmap alongside the CEO and Head of Customer Success. You’ll prioritize features based on immediate patient impact, regulatory requirements, and revenue potential, then scope MVPs that can be deployed to live agencies within days.
  • • Establish monitoring and alerting systems that guarantee 99.9 % uptime for critical workflows. When a caregiver calls in sick at 2 a.m., the platform must instantly rebalance schedules, notify replacements, and confirm shift coverage—without human intervention unless absolutely necessary.
  • • Design human escalation paths that are as elegant as the automation itself. When AI reaches its confidence threshold, you’ll ensure seamless handoffs—complete with context, transcripts, and recommended actions—so human operators can resolve issues in seconds, not minutes.
  • • Champion security and compliance from day one. Home healthcare is governed by HIPAA, state labor laws, and agency-specific policies; you’ll bake encryption, role-based access, and immutable audit logs into every layer of the stack.
  • • Mentor future engineers and set a culture of rapid, responsible iteration. As a founding team member, you’ll write the first runbooks, define code-review rituals, and establish the quality bar that lets us move fast without breaking trust.
  • • Measure what matters: missed-call rates, caregiver response times, client satisfaction scores, and agency revenue lift. You’ll instrument analytics, run A/B tests, and present weekly impact reports to the entire company.
  • • Contribute to patent-worthy innovations in conversational AI for healthcare operations. Whether it’s novel prompt-chaining techniques, real-time schedule optimization, or voice biometric verification, your work will set industry standards.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 3–5 years shipping production software in high-growth startups, with at least one project where your code handled mission-critical operations 24/7.
  • • Hands-on experience deploying conversational AI or voice agents beyond demos—think call automation, IVR replacement, or LLM-powered phone support that real users depended on.
  • • Deep familiarity with modern LLM stacks: prompt engineering, tool use, structured output parsing, evaluation frameworks (e.g., LangSmith, Pinecone, Pydantic), and safety guardrails.
  • • Full-stack fluency (Python or TypeScript backend, React or Next.js frontend, Postgres or DynamoDB) and comfort standing up cloud infrastructure on AWS or GCP.
  • • Demonstrated ability to translate chaotic real-world processes into deterministic software rules by working directly with non-technical operators.
