Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • The Web Designer role at the Foundation for California Community Colleges is a mission-driven position focused on enhancing digital experiences for the California Community Colleges system—the largest and most diverse higher education system in the nation. This role directly supports the Foundation’s goal to double its impact over the next decade by creating accessible, user-centered web experiences that expand pathways to economic and social mobility for millions of Californians.
- • The person will lead UX/UI and page-level web design in Figma, translating stakeholder requirements into clear, accessible, and responsive designs aligned with user needs and program goals. They will design scalable page sections and reusable components, maintain organized, build-ready Figma files and documentation, define interaction and motion behaviors (including micro-interactions, transitions, and component states), partner closely with Tech Solutions developers during implementation to ensure high-fidelity execution, and collaborate with Project Marketing Specialists and program teams to clarify goals, audiences, content needs, and success criteria while incorporating feedback efficiently.
- • The Creative Team within Communications and Marketing Services operates as a collaborative, innovative unit that bridges design and development to deliver high-impact digital experiences. The team works cross-functionally with public and private partners, leveraging the Foundation’s unique blend of nonprofit impact, entrepreneurial startup culture, and state agency scale to drive meaningful change in education across California.
- • In this role, the individual will deepen their expertise in UX/UI design, interaction design, and design-to-development handoff processes while gaining direct experience working within a mission-driven organization that values equity, innovation, and shared leadership. They will have the opportunity to see their work scale across 70+ programs and partners, contributing to tangible improvements in student experience and access to opportunity throughout California’s community college system.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in UX/UI design, web design, graphic design, HCI, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- • Demonstrated experience partnering with developers through implementation, including iterative review and pre-launch verification—not just handoff.
- • Proficiency in Figma: components, auto layout, variants, libraries, prototyping, and file documentation.
- • Strong interaction and motion-for-web fundamentals, including micro-interactions, UI transitions, component state systems, and purposeful movement that supports user understanding.
- • Working knowledge of front-end development concepts and constraints: semantic HTML, CSS layout (flexbox/grid), and common JavaScript-driven UI behaviors.
- • Comfort partnering with developers in iterative build environments, including staging review cycles and clear issue documentation.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive compensation with a budgeted annual salary range of $70,000.00 - $75,000.00, generous PTO, and holidays.
- • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, Flexible Spending Accounts, Health Savings Accounts (HSA), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and wellness offerings.
- • Access to the CalPERS retirement program and optional 403(b) and 457 retirement plans, plus tuition reimbursement.
- • Employer certification for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), supporting long-term financial wellness for employees in public service roles.
